Yes they were freinds. I remember reading an article once that said they met each other during the Happy Days era when Willie was doing Eight is Enough and Scott was on that show. Scott was delighted when Ames got the part in 84 and I think I remember something about Baio only agreeing to the revamed version if Willie was a part of it.
