Her real name is Naya Rivera
After Family Matters she did guest appearences on different shows (Show called Live Shot in 1995, Baywatch in 1996)
After Baywatch she took 6 years off but came back in 2002 with a voice work in Even Stevens("Charlene" in episode: "Short Story" 21 June 2002) and 2 guest appearences on the Bernie Mac Show(in episode: "Handle Your Business" 13 February 2002 & playing "Donna" in episode: "Laughing Matters" 21 December 2003)
She also did Master of Disguise as Captain America Kid, and House Blend, a short lived UPN show as Chloe.
Guessing that she is taking time off to finish High School, as she would only be 17.
As far as her character, I don't think we saw enough to make a proper judgement, I wish she would have appeared more often
