I think alot of this has to do with how trendy and hip a show was trying to be. For an example, I'll use Facts of Life. The earlier seasons don't seem as bad to most fans as the later ones, in terms of aging. Mostly because they were wearing school uniforms all the time, and when they were wearing other clothes, they were usually jeans and a t-shirt, or some other casual wear (with the exception of Blair). Fast forward a couple of years to the Over-Our-Heads era. Big hair, 80's fashions. The dress was very trendy for the times. These are the episodes that look the most dated.
