I also bring in a few behind-the-scenes interviews with Amy Sherman-Palladino to add more context to how some of these storylines were talked about by the writers.

Quick note: I reference Amy Sherman-Palladino because I’m using a few interviews where she talks about Rory, growing up, her purity and the final four words. I also mention some season seven storylines, which Amy and Dan Palladino were not involved in, so I don’t want it to sound like I’m putting every choice across the series on one person.

Panel referenced: ATX TV Festival - Gilmore Girls 15 Year Reunion, 2015
Allen Ginsberg, 'Howl.' You’ve read this?"

When Jess Mariano first stepped off the bus in Stars Hollow, he wasn't just a leather-jacketed cliché or another obstacle in Rory and Dean's relationship. He was a puzzle that the town—and the fans—are still trying to solve decades later.

In this video essay, we’re moving past the "Bad Boy" label to explore the "Literary Loneliness" of Jess Mariano. From his back-pocket paperbacks to his eventual career as an author, we deep-dive into how Jess used intelligence as a shield and silence as a weapon. While the other men in Rory’s life stayed trapped in high school nostalgia or family legacies, Jess authored his own redemption.

We’re discussing:

The Intellectual Outsider: Why Jess was the refreshing (and necessary) contrast to the safety of Dean Forester.

The Architecture of Abandonment: Analyzing his "moodiness" not as meanness, but as a trauma response to Liz and Jimmy.

The Luke Danes Anchor: How the most underrated relationship in the show became Jess’s blueprint for becoming a man.

The Boyfriend Comparison: Why Dean stayed stagnant and Logan stayed in his gilded cage, while Jess actually grew up.

The Revival Hero: How Jess became the only person capable of pulling Rory out of her 30-something tailspin.

Was Jess too good for Rory in the end? Or are they the ultimate "Right Person, Wrong Timeline" tragedy? Let’s talk about it in the comments.
In this video, I take a closer look at one of the most controversial storylines in Gilmore Girls: Rory dropping out of Yale, and Lorelai’s reaction to it.

We often remember this period as the moment Rory lost her way. But when you revisit the episodes, the dynamic between Lorelai and Rory reveals something deeper about parent-child relationships, control, and what happens when a parent becomes emotionally attached to a certain vision of their child’s future.

From Mitchum’s feedback to the yacht incident to Rory moving in with her grandparents, this storyline shows how fear, expectations, and love can get tangled together in complicated ways.

I have a background in psychology and communication, and I love breaking down character behavior and relationship dynamics like this. If you enjoy thoughtful TV analysis, this channel is for you.

Is Lorelai Gilmore actually a resident bully in Stars Hollow? We all loved the "best friend, cool mom" dynamic when we first watched Gilmore Girls, but rewatching the show as an adult reveals a more problematic side to Lorelai's parenting.

In this video essay, we’re breaking down how Lorelai Gilmore routinely acts like a high school mean girl, weaponizing her adult authority to bully, intimidate, and mock literal teenagers, all to keep Rory on an untouchable pedestal. From Rory’s boyfriends - Dean and Jess, to her schoolmates at Chilton, Lorelai routinely intimidates and mocks minors.

We’ll also look at the direct consequences of this parenting style. By shielding Rory from accountability and fighting off her high school rivals, did Lorelai accidentally turn Rory into the entitled, sheltered brat fans criticize in the later seasons? Let's dive into the problematic side of the Gilmore Girls. Drop your takes in the comments below!

While "Gilmore Girls" officially ended in 2007, the dramedy got a revival season almost a decade later with Netflix's "Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life".

Viewers were thrilled to have their favorite characters back, but some were disappointed over the lack of growth seemingly afforded to Alexis Bledel’s Rory.

The show ends with Rory telling her mother, Lorelai (Lauren Graham), that she’s pregnant, but it wasn’t the ending that Bledel was hoping for.

In a conversation on Deadline’s Emmy Contenders panel, Bledel was asked about whether she felt her character’s ending was satisfying. She replied, “It certainly wasn't the ending I was expecting. I told Amy that I hoped Rory would end on a high note. After all her hard work, I wanted to see her succeed and be thriving. So it was a hard thing for me to digest.”
In this video, I’m looking at Lane’s arc through what she actually wanted: music, love, family, freedom from hiding, and a version of Mrs. Kim who could finally accept her as she was. I still think Lane deserved more time, more room, and more story, but I don’t think her life was as tragic as it’s often made out to be.

Maybe Lane’s ending wasn’t perfect. Maybe it was just quieter than we expected.
