Do we know if the Cleavers are supposed to align with a more upper middle class audience and the Andersons with a more middle middle class?

I see such a differance between the two.

FKB came over from radio. Was listening to the radio class based?
Does FKB have roots in soap opera radio?

I don't believe Barbara Billingsley modeled undergarments. But even
very highly suspicious in my opinion.
There are examples of photoshopped fakes of sitcom stars all over

I think Mrs. Rayburn should have foreseen that the assignment - and esp. reading the composition in front of the class - was liable to lead to feelings of inferiority, if some students felt that their mothers' lives did not measure up to others. It would have been best to leave this as a private assignment without making everybody read it publicly. Mrs. Rayburn usually shows wiser judgment than this. I do hope June explained everything to her.
Also, why was Mrs. Rayburn in charge? Was it because Sue Randall wasn't available? (In the episode they explain that Miss Landers is sick.)

Cindy Carol as Alma Hanson (Carol Sydes)

Wally and Alma / Wally's Girl Trouble /....
I really think she is cute !
She Became Gidget in Gidget Goes to Rome /Also on My 3 Sons
Really snuggles you to Wally
And her mom is Wilma Flintstone ! Jean Vander Pyl
Short Career

The dainty, brown-eyed 1960s starlet best known for being the third iteration of Gidget was born Annette Carol Sydes, one of four offspring to high-school English teacher Thomas Sydes and his wife Ruth (née Meadows). In her mid-teens, Carol made several TV commercials for diverse products, ranging from Frisky Cat Foods and Noxzema skin cleanser to Fritos Corn Chips. Though her father disapproved of her acting aspirations, she persisted, and she accidentally finagled a guest spot in the TV series Medic (1954) for which her older brother (Anthony Sydes) was auditioning. Cast in bit parts for her first two years in showbiz, she appeared several times on the sitcom Leave It to Beaver (1957) (still credited as Carol Sydes), then became a fixture on The New Loretta Young Show (1962) as one of the lead character's seven children. Though the series was axed after 26 episodes, Carol managed to get selected from among 500 other applicants by producer Jerry Bresler for the coveted role of diminutive surfing beach-bunny Gidget for the feature film Gidget Goes to Rome (1963) (Deborah Walley, who had been Gidget's second screen incarnation, had become unavailable because she had married and was starting a family). Signed to a seven-year contract by Columbia at a respectable starting salary of $300 per week, Carol underwent the usual studio publicity campaign and had her hair color changed to blonde and her name to the sweeter-sounding Cindy Carol.

She had just one significant moment on the big screen, as Pandora Leaf, the crafty 18-year-old daughter of a college professor (James Stewart) in the family comedy Dear Brigitte (1965), although most of the plaudits in the junior acting stakes went to Bill Mumy as Pandora's mathematically-gifted brother. Carol's swan song was a recurring role on the daytime soap Never Too Young (1965), which was aimed at the teenage market. She retired from acting in 1966 and, as Carol Annette Connelly, devoted herself to raising a family. Her second husband, actor Christopher Connelly, died from lung cancer in December 1988, at only 47.
What was it really like to grow up as the most famous kid in America? On this episode of Throwback Thursdays I revisit my interview with the legendary Jerry Mathers (The Beaver!) for a deep dive into the making of Leave It To Beaver. From his surreal auditions to his time behind the scenes of Leave It To Beaver Jerry shares stories you’ve may never have heard before.

In this episode, we uncover:

The "Too Funny" Rule: Why producers actually cut jokes from the script.

Working with Hitchcock: What Alfred Hitchcock really thought of "Mr. Mathers."

Real-Life Secrets: Hugh Beaumont’s double life as a minister and Barbara Billingsley’s camera tricks.

Myth-Busting: Setting the record straight on those Little Ricky and Vietnam rumors.

The Green Hat: Why there was only one hat for six years of filming.

If you grew up watching the Cleaver family, this is an interview you don’t want to miss.

Hosted by John Cato, actor, voiceover artist, and moderator for over 20 years for the television and movie industry. John's background brings a unique insight and passion to the podcast.

0:00 – Introduction

0:49 – How the pandemic birthed the show

1:16 – Why Tweety Bird (Bob Bergen) had to step back

3:26 – Jerry's "All-Access" pass to any movie set

5:42 – Guest Intro: The Legendary Jerry Mathers

6:55 – The mystery of the one-and-only Green Baseball Cap

8:27 – Where is the original hat hidden today?

9:35 – How residuals put "The Beav" through college

11:43 – True stories? Drawing from 15 children

13:15 – Why they removed lines for being "too funny"

On LITB, hair, or more to the point the lack of it, was hardly ever mentioned on LITB. The one episode I can recall where mention was made of the “male curse” was on the third season episode, “Beaver and Violet.”

In that episode, Fred Rutherford complains to Ward that some young and clearly disrespectful kid called him “skin-head” while Fred was walking over to the
Cleaver’s home. Later, in that same episode, Gwen Rutherford tells her husband, Fred, to put his New York Yankees baseball hat back on to avoid getting a glare from his shiny bald head when Ward is about to photograph the two of them while on a picnic with the Cleavers.

Gwen Rutherford’s candid remark to Fred reminds me of a baseball game between the St. Louis Cardinals and the New York Mets at Shea Stadium many years ago. As the tv cameraman was taking a shot of the Cardinals’s dugout, one of the Cardinal coaches, a fifty-something man with a completely bald head just happened to take off his baseball hat there in the dugout. This prompted Mets announcer, the late, great Tim McCarver, to immediately shout out in his wonderful Memphis, Tennessee accent, “Put that hat back on, the SHINE is BLINDING me!”

Now the only other man with a “denuded” head on LITB, who can I remember was the legendary Gus-the-Fireman. And, as another poster pointed out, Gus was also in need of some serious cosmetic dentistry procedures to fix his choppers. However, I got the impression that Gus, being a sage sexagenarian, was completely at ease and cool with having completely lost his hair during his younger years because, in the scheme of things, it really didn’t matter.

Although, I could see an incorrigible smart-@ss like Eddie Haskell saying something to Lumpy Rutherford like, “Hey, Lumpy, do you think you’ll eventually get a chrome-dome just like your old man?”

Can you think of any other characters on LITB, who were also “folliclely-challenged”?

Would have been in his glory during peak Beaver time.

Were any of his songs on the show?
