First, it was Rhoda's old high school friend Myrna. After being a fairly recurring character through Season 2 and even going into the window-decorating business alongside Rhoda, Myrna and the window-decorating business for that matter, are never seen nor mentioned again.

Then, we get Sally Gallagher as Myrna's "successor" of sorts. And just about every key storyline in the first half of the third season always involves Sally together with Rhoda and Brenda. And yet, following the "What Are You Doing New Year's Eve?" episode, Sally is never mentioned nor seen on the show again.

Also for most of Season 3, Gary Levy becomes a recurring character and stays all the way through Season 4. Gary by this time, is seemingly always in the apartment with Rhoda and Brenda. And yet, come Season 5, Gary is said to be 'moving to Chicago' to work for a major retailer.
