Lauren Hutton: we watched 2 nights guest grow up on a television show called the facts of life and become an adult on television movies. She is now producing and starring in her own telelvision series called Can't Hurry Love. NANCY MCKEON. Hi Nancy!
Nancy: Hi
LH: Now u started 25 years ago at 2, on telelvision, now here U R producing and starring in ur own TV show. It's very funny. I just saw it.
Nancy: Thanks
LH: Good writing
Nancy: Thank u
LH: Wonderful
Nancy: Well we try. ~laugh~
LH: What's the secret to ur longevity?
Nancy: U know, I'm not sure, everyone has their own story and I think just a passion for what i'm doing and I'm fortunate enough to make a living out of it and I don't think everyone gets a chance to say that. I'm lucky enough to of been able to do that my whole life. I love going to work and people seem to let me go in and out of movies and tv shows and accept me.
LH: Yeah ur like one of the family. Did u always love it, even when u were a little kid u weren't out playing, u were working, modeling.
Nancy: I really did. It started out U have to go to school, and when ur in Catholic grade school, n e excuse to get out for a day is really lovely. U have a little break from the nuns and go sell ice cream. It started out modeling, sears catologue, NY Times, fashion shows in the city when ur this tall wearing really nasty polyester outfits.
LH: Oh well ~laugh~
N: We've all been there. ~laugh~ Fortunately I was this tall, I could get away w/ polyester. We went out to California and actually got the chance to act. U know, Aaron Spelling, Starsky and Hutch.
LH: Ur brother actually got a show so ur dad and took the whole family out to California when u were 10.
Nancy: Right, actually, not right away. We were actually on our way to Canada, I have family up there. And we all were going to move up there then my brother got the show and we turned it down twice, and they came back 1 more time and said please, we'd love to have him on the show and they talked about it and thought it was going to be for 13 weeks b/c that's usually how long shows last. My mom and brother went out to California and it just kept going so about a year later my dad sold the house in Queens we moved 2 California 2 be 2gether
LH: Was that tough? U were in pre-adolesence. Were u excited?
Nancy: It was exciting at that particular time. We didn't hae very much money. We lived in a 1 bedroom apartment across from Warner Bros. which i was convinced the loche ness monster was living in the pool. ~laugh~ It was so green and black, things moved and gurgled in there. Umm... all of that was exciting. U know our 1st x-mas they were trimming the pom trees from across the street and and we got a bunch of pom frons and put them in a bowl and decorated it. It was fun.
LH: U know we hear all the time now the parents r dependant on their childrens work. Sounds like ur family wasn't like that.
Nancy: No they weren't. U know, nobody in my family is in show business except me and my brother. My mom is a nurse, a brillant one at that. And my dad had his own travel agency here and they really made the sacrafice for us. They always said U can stop what ur doing when U want 2. U don't have 2 do this?
LH: What is ur brother doing now?
Nancy: My brother is producing feature films, his first one was where the day takes u w/ his producing partner Mark Rocco and the last one was Murder in the 1st w/ Kevin Bacon. It did very well.
LH: Good for him. So he bagged acting completely?
Nancy: U know, he just didn't love it. Acting is tricky If u don't have the passion for it U should get out. B/C there R so many people that have the passion and the talent. He's wonderful behind the scenes, he's a wonderful producer and he's going to become a director.
LH: What's ur relationship w/ him?
Nancy: This is going to sound awfully boring but I adore him. He's my only brother. He has a hugh heart.
LH: I don't believe a word ur saying ~laugh~
Nancy: Sick isn't it?
LH: Oh boy
Nancy:~laugh~ He has saved my butt so many times and he's not one of those brothers who was like get away. He was always like, come on u can be the bat girl.
LH: What's the age difference?
Nancy: 18 months. He's my superior. We're very close. He's very intelligent and sweet.
LH: UR a lucky dog.
Nancy: I know it's sick.
LH: I hear ur mom is ur all time hero. Oh god.
Nancy: ~laugh~ To me a hero doesn't have ot be a sports legend or a politican. I'm not taking n e thing away from them. But my mom was really the 1st one to start working w/ HIV possitive pattience. She still does that. I'm lucky to do what I do but the world doesn't live or die on television.

LH: We're back w/ perky, happy, and extremely lucky Nancy McKeon.
Nancy throws grapes at LH
Nancy: Perky? ~laughs~
LH: U actually thought about quiting the show business didn't u?
Nancy: Mmm hmm. I was 13, my brother had a wonderful show and I jsut couldn't get a job. It was a couple of years and I was taking a lot of lessons, singing, tap dance, piano, i was working my little heart out and nothing was working and I thought this wasn't meant to be.
LH: How long did this go on?
Nancy: 2 1/2-3 years. And I thought, u know gosh, maybe i should become a cheerleader. ~the laugh~ Fortunately that was when I got my first acting gig. and everything kept going from there.
LH: U were there in ur teenage years, what was it like showing it all on tv?
Nancy: It's a very unique experience. U know people forget about almost n e thing drugs, murder, but puberty they won't let u forget. It didn't matter what was going on in my life, how I looked, and from 14-22 ur doing a lot of changing. No matter what was going on I had to go do my job and there were times when I didn't like how I was inside. U know u go through that at that age. I can't rip up those pictures, people just keep playing those episodes.
LH: Was it art imitating life?
Nancy: Up to a point
LH: U watch the shows?
Nancy: I'll watch it once when it comes out.
LH: Characters tend to overshadow the person. Do people still see u as that little girl?
Nancy: Sure. U know, a lot of people identify w/ her. 8 years is a long time. I have people yelling and waving at me, Hey Jo from the car, bloomingdales. And I don't mind it. I had a gr8 time. People say now I love the show and he movies. It puts a smile on my face.

LH: What do u need from a relationship?
Nancy: Me personally, gosh?
LH: Yeah, speak into the michrophone. ~laughs~
Nancy: I think it's different for everyone. I don't have a list. I'm in a relationship now and I'd say the best thing was i felt like i had known him my whole life, it was sorta a coming home, a kindred spirit of the sort. And I love that ease that's there. I don't seek the drama that's in a relationship.
LH: How long has this been going on?
Nancy: Almost a year.
LH: Exciting time
Nancy: yeah, it's gr8 fun, and going through a younger period of time I wouldn't have been as accepting to this kind of gift.
LH: What do u like best about this gift?
Nancy: Oh, ah, um.
Simaltaniously Nancy says the unconditional love and LH says Sex?
Nancy: And the sex. ~laugh~ It's sort of a 1A and a 1. ~laugh~
LH: My sweetheart says sex is the glue to love. It's good isn't it? Especially when I'm tired or I have a headache I like it.
Nancy: ~shakes her head yes but says~ He's right behind u and I'm not responding. ~laugh~

LH: R U still in touch w/ the facts of life girls?
Nancy: Yes, actually, Kim Fields just got married, so we were at her wedding. Actually Lisa Whelchel who played Blair is one of my best friends. She was 3 amazing children and I get to be aunt Nancy and go jump on the trampoline and bring them large useless presents, and play w/ silly string and bake cookies and then go home when it's bath time and their cranky. ~laugh~
LH: How'd u get the idea for can't hurry love?
Nancy: well, I went to the 4 seasons to meet one of our writers and we were just so insync of what we wanted the show to be so we shot the pilot and NBC liked it.
