View Full Version : "Going to Pot" - What's so wrong about it?

Just as I thought, I just knew I had this episode somewhere in my VHS recordings from 2002, and I came across the infamous "Going to Pot" episode! It's recorded from TNN, and it's an episode I have rarely watched (counting last night, it was my second time remembering watching it - mind you, I was very young when TC started airing syndications in the mid to late 80s and cannot remember all episodes).

So...... I have only one question to ask: What is so wrong about this episode? I mean, it was JUST a misunderstanding, right? Isn't that what the jist of Three's Company entails? Looking at the episode, it just wasn't THAT bad. It was funny, overall. Jack with his usual funny physical comedy. I mean, what about that Roseanne "pot" episode? And it was a family show! :(

I have taken the liberty to take some digital screenshots of the episode to post for all of you who haven't seen it or want "new" images. Have fun with them! :D :)

This first image is where Jack is telling Janet about the inspector who bribed Jack at Jack's Bistro.

The second image is where Jack has the briber coming over, adn Jack is secretly recording his words to send as proof to the police.

The third is where two officers think Mr. Furley is the "pot" dealer.

Furley putting the moves on the lady officer....

Jack telling the officer to look at the man who is the briber, but the officer keeps his eye on Furley because of that "pot" misunderstanding.

The "pot" is being discovered..... finally!!

I think its dumb how they show Roseanne eps of weed and how Roseanne actually got high in an episode and they showed it, but they can't show this.

I agree. They're not actually using marijuana - it was just a misinterpretation of a conversation. Where's the harm?

I agree that there is nothing wrong with this episode! I also don't understand why there ok with Rosanne actually smoking a joint andgetting high but not ok to show this ep.? Does not make any sense.:(

I remember that episode. That was a really good one. I think they still play it in syndication, but I don't know. It was quite a few years ago since I saw it.

Doesn't Nick at Nite ever get messages from fans to show this episode? Hasn't N@N seen all these message boards and websites about how bad people feel because they can't watch this very episode? I wish they could just air it and make every 3's comp fan happy again. --> :)

At least they are airing (most of) the episodes... there were no episodes shown in germany since 7 or 8 years now! There are still a lot of eps I've never seen!

The funny thing about the episode-GOING TO POT, is when i recorded it off TNN in the summer of 2002, i was just recording every TC episode I could and really had no idea the episode was so controversial-LOL

Funny you mentioned this because I also had no clue either! I ONLY recorded a couple of episodes off TNN because I wanted more TC episodes to add to my collection. Despite coincidentally being fortunate recording these two controversial episodes (including "The Charming Stranger") off TNN, they were recorded off my "old" cruddy VCR with low sound. But, at least, I have them! I didn't even realize I had them until I was looking through my "October 2002" video tapings.

Yeah, it really bites. I mean, there are SO many shows nowadays where these types of REAL topics appear, not just misunderstandings. And Rosanne comes on two hours earlier than TC! Yet, when it comes to TC airing this funny misunderstanding, they decide not to air it. I mean, what about "Days of Beer and Weeds" where they thought Mrs. Roper's plant had weed? That still airs. Not as much, but it's aired various times.

I have feeling that N@N really doesn't care about TC as much as it cares about Roseanne or Full House... Did you notice that TC doesn't have any new promos since 2000? Three Blonde Mates? I've heard that song S:mad: MANY TIMES!! AND! Did you notice that Roseanne and Full House have promos about the next eppy and all TC has is, "See what's cooking at Jack Tripper's house" or whatever the hell he says?????

I remember watching that episode on DejaView back in October. I wonder what all this fuss is about. Also, there is a rumour that DejaView will add The Munsters to their schedule this fall. I hear there is also another controversial episode from that show that isn't aired in the US. We'll see if DejaView will air it here in Canada.

Well, many of us don't have DejaView...

I've read some other posts from this board talking about this ep. and I could never figure out which ep. "Going to Pot" was. I thought it was an ep. I've never seen before. Now, after seeing the pics I remember it now. Its been years since I've seen that ep. I don't think N@N has ever shown it. TC doesn't come on any stations here except for N@N, so I'll be along time before I'll ever see it.:(

Thanks for posting the pics:)
