ok i think i have a virus or something...certain words are highlighted on the internet pages i visit with links to search pages...and on some pages an error box comes up saying the page has to be aborted because of an Active X control?! help?!

I can see how it messed up in your quotes. I don't think it's a virus. It's most likely spyware. If you have Adaware and Spybot, run them both. But be sure to update the definitions in both before you run the scan in both programs. This should HOPEFULLY clear it up. :)
If you don't have either program (I use both to get a more thorough cleaning), they're both free @ download.com.
