I had the surgery last October I would do it again in a heartbeat. How is your mom doing?

My mother has lost over 130-140 pounds since she had the surgery in January 2003. She is in a lot better health now.

Yes, I hear you. It's difficult losing it and even more difficult keeping it off. It seems to come back really fast. And depression doesn't help. In fact, it seems to aid it.

it's not easy at all I work hard at it everyday I don't just lose weight. I have to eat right and exercise like everyone else the only difference is our stomach's are smaller. It wasn't easy when I was throwing up 2 or 3 times a day trying to eat even healthy foods that nobody ever thinks about when they eat. It's very very hard

Oh, I agree, bypass is the easy way out, but when you've tried just about every diet, it's the only way.

About your friend saying that heavy people should lock the fridge, that's a stupid comment. Everybody needs to eat, fat or thin, and fasting makes it worse. It's just a matter of eating to live, not living to eat. Thanks, Solomon, for putting your friend in his place.

And I know what all is required to do after surgery. Believe me, I've done quite enough reading up on the subject. BTW, MandieR, I haven't said anything to you sooner, but congrats on your weight loss!

Cameron Manheim of the Pratice says that she works out regularly and says that the weight never comes off!! Exercising is not just for losing weight but for feeling good and having the blood and oxygen in your body run more smoothly. I used to lift weights and though good for the muscles I was missing the cardio!! I started doing tae-bo in 1999 and on and off again but back on in 2001 but dropped off later that year then back in 2002 and still doing it!! If I don't work out, I feel bloated!! It makes me feel good and cardio keeps you living!! BTW, you will be in our thoughts and prayers and good luck!!

O.K., I take back what I said. I know it's not easy. I haven't had to do it YET(but still hoping), but I've read up on all that's required post-surgery.

The surgeries you all are talking about are now famous since Carnie Wilson, Al Roker, Randy Jackson, Anne Wilson from the Band Heart went through those but they lived and it was also very, very, expensive and they could afford since they are well, rich and famous!!

I didn't pay a dime for my surgery my health insurance paid all of it.

I'm going to have to check around to other clinics because the clinic I applied to is the one that's telling me that my insurance company won't cover it because I have no documentation of health problems, and I also have to have some kind of prove that I have progressively gained weight over the years. Geez, you can look at me and see that!! Plus, they also told me that there are some 'fees', like fees for this and that, the doctors, anesthesiologist, etc. That doesn't make sense. Why don't they just lump the fees in with the price of the surgery? BTW, the fees would run me $6000+.

I'm still frustrated buying clothes because I've lost so much weight and I STILL have to shop in the plus section in some stores (not all). I consider it a huge hurdle that I can wear jeans that are a 16 regular...not a 16 plus. That's a big difference to me.

I never even considered surgery. I dont think I could have handled it.

I want to be shopping in the regular size clothing section in every store by summer. That's my goal.

Congrats so far, Nanny Fine!! Keep it up!! I saw a billboard for a store that sells plus size clothing and they go as high as 8XXXL!! I'm sorry, I'm heavy, but certainly not 8XXXL and I cannot imagine having to wear that size. I can't imagine putting that size and it still being tight on you, knowing that's the biggest size they have. I don't understand people who allow themselves to get up to 500+lbs, like you see on Oprah, and they have to cut part of the wall to get them out of their bedrooms. If you cannot function in life because of your weight, that would jolt me into reality.

that's not a good way to lose weight I've always been told that you have to eat to lose weight because when you don't eat your metabolism slows down and you don't burn as many calories

It wasn't entirely my fault I came from a heavy family where food was always around. In most families when you don't like what was cooked you either ate it or went without supper, in my family if you didn't like it you made your own dinner. I suffered with depression for MANY years and I turned to food and as the years went by I gained and gained

It wasn't entirely my fault I came from a heavy family where food was always around. In most families when you don't like what was cooked you either ate it or went without supper, in my family if you didn't like it you made your own dinner. Um there's lots of food here, too. I have depression, ocd, etc. That doesn't mean I need to shovel food down my throat, that's not going to take them away. It's just going to cause more.

I also used food for comfort as well but then I quit eating big and only use to eat "on the run!!"

thanks and BTW it's way too easy to cheat on Weight Watchers I tried it 4 times in my life starting when I was 11 years old.. Diets don't work at all for me and I don't feel like I'm on one now it's great.

I bought myself some SlimFast shakes though, and their mac & cheese, so Ill replace those with my usual Kraft ones *sobs*. And its not distgusting looking at some 80 pound anorexic woman? Eating disorders have two different extremes. Obesity and anorexia/bulimia are all eating disorders that need special treatment. Dont knock people for 'eating the bag in one sitting' when their are people who are either starving themselves to death, or, throwing it all back up.

Thank you. Her harrassment by far is the worst I have every been treated even when I was in school I wasn't treated as bad as this. It's pure ignorance instead of being happy for me she has to try to ruin a great thing for me. I'm not letting her ruin this for me but I'm not gonna be stalked on my own journal that I made to help people with the same problem and talk to my friends on. I never touched her journal until she started on mine and that's the truth I don't set out to start trouble it always finds me.

You're always going to come across people who can be a bit harsh and, unfortunately, there is nothing you can do about it... however, I have found that a good hard bitch slap across the face can help.

Anyway, just ignore all of the BS that people say. Just focus on where you are going and what you want to accomplish.
