Over the years there have been so many great games and events in sports history. While these events alone are awesome, I think the broadcasts by the play by play announcers covering it are just as good. There have been a lot of them since sports have been covered on the radio since the 1930s and the TV since its conception. Here are my favorites

Jim Marshall running the wrong way

Roger Maris' 61st home run

Billy Mills winning the 10,000 meter Gold

Johnny Havlicek's steal to win a key playoff victory for the Boston Celtics

The controversial 1972 Olympic basketball game between the Soviets and the Americans

The Immaculate Reception

Al Michael's classic call after the US Olympic hockey team upset the Soviets (Do you believe in miracles? Yes!!!)

The Play (a game between Cal and Stanford in which Stanford's marching band marched on the field during the closing seconds as Cal made a last minute play with a few laterals. Kevin Moen charged right into the marching band and hit a trombone player)

Mark McGwire hitting his 62nd home run to break the single season home run record

Pete Rose collecting hit #4,192 the break the career hits record

Light hitting Ozzie Smith hitting a home run to end Game 5 of the NLCS

Bill Buckner's 1986 World Series error (I like Vin Scully's broadcast better)

Michael Jordan's game-winning shot to beat Cleveland in the playoffs

The earthquake that rocked the 1989 World Series

Mike Tyson biting Evander Holyfield twice

The Music City Miracle (the Tenessee Titans stunning victory in the closing seconds of a playoff game)

The 2002 World Cup FIFA (World Cup Soccer) final- when Brazil beat Germany 2-0. :)

The 1958 NFL Title game with the Baltimore Colts and New York Giants that RB Ameche ran to give the Colts a win

Sebiscuit proving that the underdog can and will prevail

Dale Earnhardt winning the 1998 Daytona 500 after 20 tries

Dale Earnhardt Jr winning the 2001 Pepsi 400 at Daytona 5 months after his fathers's tragic death in February

As a 49ers fan, I gotta put Montana to Taylor in the Super Bowl right up there on my personal list. "The Catch" by Dwight Clark against the Cowboys is a pretty good one. Barry Bonds breaking Roger Maris' HR record was a good moment as well. I definitely agree with "The Shot Heard 'Round the World" and ditto the World Series earthquake. How about some of the great calls on some of the not so great moments? Well, I probably should be more clear. I'll give an example. Scott Norwood missing the FG, the Giants win the Super Bowl. The agony of defeat.

That guy on the beginning of "Wide World of Sports" snow skying down the mountain ramp and as been a tradition and trademark for years when announcer Jim McKay says "The Agony of Defeat" and almost after the terrible fall breaks his neck!!

Actually Barry Bonds broke Mark McGwire's single season home run record. I didn't get to see it because ESPN or any of the other sports channels for that matter didn't broadcast the moment when it happened. It pisses me off because I don't know if it will be broken again but you never know. I did see Mark McGwire break Maris' record right when it happened but it doesn't give me full satisfaction as it has become dated.

Any game done by legendary Boston Celtic announcer Johnny Most. This guy loved his job and there was never any doubt that he was a homer. There were some great stories about him....one being the night he was announcing a game and dropped a cigarette in his lap. He was screaming but continued to call the game. RIP Johnny, you were the best.

One that comes to my mind is the 1997 Nebraska vs Missouri football game when Brent Musberger called the kick catch that sent that game into overtime and eventualy won by Nebraska.

The 1998 Daytona 500, when the late great Dale Earnhardt won.

2004 highschool basketball game it was the SWC tournament and my old highschool Holdrege beat the number 4 ranked team in the state on a buzzer beater shot we won 50-49.
