View Full Version : "My Fair David"
"what's happnin' mon, i make a boo boo?"
fianlly got to see a show that showcased barbara bain. i remember her from "space: 1999" from the '70's. she got to play the bad guy here as dave and maddie foiled her "kidapping" her stepson. after she paid them to find him from an earlier "kidnapping" he done himself, for extortion.
this epsiode started with maddie walking into he office during a limbo dance party. she spent the whole episode here trying to keep david in a bet to keep him acting as a mature adult. she eventually admitted to missing the old dave.
one of my favourites, mainly due to the office parties of the limbo. the whole office was involved to a degree instead of just the stars with the office personnel just sitting there. all the interaction helped make this more memorable. and great dialog throughout.
rating: 8
david&maddie4ever 02-15-2004, 05:40 PM Hey, Bobby.
Finally got to one you really liked, huh?
Whenever I hear the title of this one, I'm always thinking that there's a very memorable scene in it that I loved, but I can't remember it! :o Is there one, or do I have the wrong episode?
the fussing they did on who would win the bet made great dialog. she would give him $3000 and he would act "mature" and fire two expendable employees. all that was in the whole story so it kept the arguing go on and on. and they are great when they argue.
after she made him "act like a boss instead of a buddy", he walked into the lobby and made everyone take notice. and made agnes stop rhyming when she answered the phone. that was a moment.

Boy, that's the understatement of the century! :p
Tazmania 06-28-2004, 08:30 AM Now don't you just love the scene where they shake on the bet and David just does a body shake one more time to get the last immature behaviour out of his system!
God I almost PMP when I saw that!!
And Maddie's face just stays so serious! How does she do that???
:D greetz Taz
things like that is what makes davis addison such a great character.
CindyK 06-28-2004, 08:08 PM The David mocking Maddie in front of office behind her back is just a hilarious scene.
If anybody needs a refresher and wants to see this scene...if you go to this page of my site Click Here (http://www.davidandmaddie.com/chem-bruce.htm) and scroll down to the video interviews, this entire scene is shown on the David Letterman Show clip.
Bruce and Cyb both have just perfect timing in this scene.
CindyK 06-28-2004, 08:12 PM oops I meant to post this photo with my last message...
here it is
Now to me, this is probably the best one for pure comedy. It's just the funniest thing from beginning to end. It's the perfect example of the Moonlighting formula, great chemistry between Bruce & Cybill, convoluted case, and very funny.
Carina13 08-06-2004, 09:27 AM Yes, it's one of the funniest episodes ever. It starts with Dave singing the "limbo" song... That scene alone is just hilarious, my mom and I always sing the limbo song because of this episode and we star laughing every time we do it, hehehe. Remember when Maddie entered to the office?
Dave: "Hi boss! Back from the dentist so soon???"
hahahahaha And then when he leaves to Maddie's office he says:
Dave: "She got a hair appointment on Thursday"
hahahaha
And when they talk about the bet, and they're near the door, and this is what they say:
Maddie: "More money?"
Dave: "No, not money. Something that really matters."
Maddie: "Keep dreaming Addison."
Dave: "OOhh (mocking) how childish and inmature, Miss Hayes. Everything to you is sex, sex, sex. I maybe after something that really matters."
Maddie: "Like what?"
Dave: "Your dignity."
Maddie: "Excuse me."
Dave: "Limbo, Maddie. Come on! How low can you go!?"
Maddie: "What are you talking about?"
Dave: "You know exactly what I'm talking about. You, out there, in front of the employees, god and everybody."
Maddie: "And what do I get?"
Dave: "What do you mean?"
Maddie: "When you lose, what do I get?"
Dave: "Moi."
Maddie: "The hole (...) or just your head on a platter?"

Great episode, really!!! And the best is the part where she admits she doesnt like this David, hehehehe
kismet 08-06-2004, 10:29 AM I loved the whole betting thing. I agree with you, Cindy -- both Bruce and Cybill had great timing. It makes me laugh out loud every time I see David following Maddie through the office.
Tazmania 08-06-2004, 12:47 PM  The thing that I don't get in this episode is that first Maddie says she wants the old David back and then they make us think the bet is over and then when he starts to sing on the street she says he lost the bet!!!???
I'm confuzzled about that!
Can anybody explain? Maybe I missed something?

the same thing made ME confuzzled. Is that a Dutchie thing or something???
Oh and don't you love that scene where Maddie has to call the woman to tell Clark is alive? It makes me LMAO everytime I see it.
I love the part where we solve the crime!

Glad I'm not the only one who doesn't get that!
kolchak 08-08-2004, 06:53 AM Great ep, one of the best.
Remember the lines about the bet when David hesitates to accept:
Maddie: what's the matter? Scared you can't pull it off?
Dave: In my sleep. Or at the very least on my back.
Um ah!!

hahahaha Taz and Steph, I don't think it's a "dutchie" thing... hihihihi I saw this episode on Friday night, again, to remember what you are saying and I can assure that my mom and I have the same problem there. When she addmited she wanted back the old David, we all assumed that the bet was indeed over, but voila!!! It wasn't!!!! I was... hummmm an "X file" from ML, hehehehe
Btw, I also adore that part when Maddie throws herself to David when she talks on the phone. One of the few moments we see really spontaneity in Maddie :)

OK! Let's call SCULDER AND MULLY!! LOL LOL:lol:
And Maddie can be spontaneous if she wants to, but she always wants to be in control, that's her teeny tiny problem!
CindyK 08-08-2004, 07:29 PM I think the point is that Maddie told him how she felt....but neither one of them at that point called off the bet..... Did you hear them call off the bet? I think when David heard that Maddie actually had discovered she like the old David, he figured winning it now was going to be a piece of cake....so he didn't call the bet off. Besides the bet wasn't for whether he could make her like the old or new David better, it was whether he could act a certain way for a specific period of time..... and he slipped up...so she won.
marla 09-24-2004, 02:58 PM this is the best done episode so far. in everyway. acting, directing, lighting, writing. all of it sent messages about maddie and david.
i love the way maddie is in a softer focus than david. i think that when david looks at maddie his feelings are 'softer' and when maddie looks at david-her feelings haven't softened yet.
things are contradictory.maddie seems to be the business person, but it's actually david who is teaching her about business. she was upset about the limbo dancing in the office. and his unprofessionalism. yet david is teaching her the 'red meat' of business. both in this episode and the 'lady in the iron mask'one.
he keeps pushing for profits.
his technique is to argue his point strongly, compliment her and sit back, let her think about it, and then agree with him.
the part where they were making the bet when he said he wanted her dignity was again shakepearean hostility/sexual tension at its best.
this was also an episode about how to be parents! david referred to maddie as mom to the employees and maddie telling david to 'be a boss not a buddy'. these two have found each other, a soul mate kind of romance, and they are working out all of the details.
maddie telling david he sings like ricki nelson.
david:
ricki nelson-he's white!!!
this episode was about as excellent as it gets.

Wow, what a great point! I never thought of it like that.
Carina13 09-28-2004, 10:09 AM Yes, you're right Marla, it gives that impression...
About Rickie Nelson... hihihihi  Typical of David... great :D
MulberryGal 09-29-2004, 03:49 AM Yes, I love that bit where he is completely mortified at being compared to Ricky Nelson. I guess it's a huge insult if you're a Soul man!
I feel a song coming on..."soul man.....! I'm a soul maaaaan"
:D :happyface
Mul
Carina13 09-29-2004, 09:09 AM "Oh baby I'm a soul maaan.." :yourock:
Btw, is this song included in "Dirty dancing"?

That is all I need to add
