View Full Version : I hate Valentine's Day
I admit it, I hate this holiday. I always have. I've never liked it. It sucks when you're single. You're either alone, or with a date that's never worth it.
You want to know what I did for Valentine's Day 2004? I slept in, cleaned my room, then got a call from my sister who won't be able to join me in my pity party because she's decided to drive to Iowa or somewhere for some bisexual convention thing. Whatever. My valentine arrives from my grandparents. Three boxes full of chocolate that can make me fat and even more miserable. I eat some of it and feel sick. Then I go online and get into a fight with some jerk on imdb who's determined to fight - probably because he didn't have a date either. Could the day get any worse? Oh, yeah, and my brother who's supposed to look after his sisters on V-Day forgot to call. Of course.
The best thing I can say about Valentine's Day is that it only comes around once a year. ;)
Janice 02-15-2004, 03:16 AM I'm sorry it's a difficult day for you Liza. As a married woman, I sort of lose sight that it's not a day of romance for everyone.
I'm feel the same way about Mother's Day since my mother passed away two years ago. I flip past the commercials. I want to just crawl under a rock to avoid all the hoopla surrounding that day.
Like Valentine's Day, you can't even really eat out on Mother's Day unless you're up for a mob scene. Your friends with boyfriends/mothers spend the day with them, so it's a day at home feeling shi**ty.
Take heart Liza. Your prince will come. ;) You're a real nice person, and you won't be single forever if you don't want that.

I'm sorry about your mother :( It does stink when everyone's got someone to share the holiday with, and you're all alone. I can definately relate ;)
But thanks Janice. Your post has been the first thing to make me smile all day
Kay Scarpetta 02-15-2004, 10:15 AM I don't even get what the big deal about V-Day is. I mean, you're supposed to love your partner every day of the year, not just on this manufactured holiday.
And yeah, I hate it too. I hate it with a passion. All I did yesterday was sleep and watch movies. What fun.
Rhiannon 02-15-2004, 11:25 AM I'm joining the club. I sat at home all night with nothing to do and no one to talk to. Screw Saint Valentine
Titania 02-15-2004, 12:38 PM Sorry you had a bad day, Liza. "Singles Awareness Day" wasn't the greatest for me either.
That morning I spent shopping with the girls and complaining about men. Then I spent almost the whole day in this V-day show at a community theater.
Yeah, great holiday.
I think the worst part is hearing about everyone else's dates. V-day anymore is just something manufactured by the greeting card companies, imo.

its no party for those afflicted with the non-single disease either; there is a lot of expectations to live up to, and it doesnt help that every store in town jacks the prices on everything Valentine/gift-related through the roof right before the date
i'm just glad its over, and i can look forward to avoiding the next Hallmark-branded holiday :mumble:
Kazza 02-15-2004, 01:22 PM I rather spend the day alone than with a jerk around whining, complaining or been an a**. I'm single(well, divorced) and my two daughters are my little Valentine's. We had a great day playing in the snow and they made me a home made V-day card. What else could I've asked for??? I rather spend the day with them and then I treat me to a well deserved bubble bath or watch a movie with the whole bowl of popcorn to myself. LOL. Not sharing 'da love' is great sometimes.:)
Lodee 02-15-2004, 02:00 PM Hey Desilover, what happened to that neighbor guy?? ;) Here I thought you were having a wild time and instead you were out playing in the snow! :) (that snow down there was a big deal, it was even on the news up here!)

awwwww-You don't have a VALENTINE-LOL
Ewan's My Man 02-15-2004, 02:12 PM I've never minded it that much...and may I point out I've never had a boyfriend, and that I spent the whole day yesterday babysitting two little boys.
*shrugs* maybe it's b/c I get stuff from my parents, i dunno, but I've never HATED Valentine's Day.

I'm cool.
phoebe7165 02-15-2004, 02:29 PM I've been boy-friend-less for 4 months now, and even if we were still together, I wouldn't care if he didn't get me anything.
I was driving down the street yesterday and we started getting backed up a little. Reason was that cars were parked at the side of the road because there was a truck selling roses out of the back and the men were lined up behind. Here it was 4:00 in the afternoon, and these men are just now getting roses!! Oh, well, I guess as long as you get them before midnight.
Bang A Gong 02-15-2004, 02:38 PM I hate Valentine's Day. Always have, always will. It's just another long, stupid, boring day like every other single day in the year. People spend a lot of money on gifts that will probably just get thrown in the closet or in a drawer. They buy chocolates that either get eaten quickly or put into some small corner where they spend the next several years rotting away until they finally get sick of looking at them and toss them in the trash. And then of course there is the dinner. Now what's the point of that? Spending money on a fancy dinner that will just be eaten within an hour or wasted when the person gets full. Why not just sit at home eating macaroni and cheese and watching TV?
Couples who get all excited for Valentine's Day and waste their money on all of that crap piss me off. I hate them. Jackasses.
I spent Valentine's Day sitting in front of the television and the computer, bored out of my skull, and I spent Valentine's Night sitting alone in the dark in my bedroom staring at the ceiling and the wall.
Screw Valentine's Day.

Your point? What the hell? You typed a three word sentence. I didn't even realize you were trying to make a point. If you were, than that was one of the ****tiest attempts at trying to make a point that I have ever seen.
Hollow 02-15-2004, 04:58 PM **** valentines day. im not whining about not having a boyfriend or anything.. in fact i no longer even have a sexual preference and i dont believe in dating because i hate everyone so much. i always have a bad day. the idea of it is stupid anyway. thats what anniversaries are for. i hate pretty much every holiday anyway. they always overwhelm me and make me more depressed. i tried to kill myself last thanksgiving but it didnt work. oh well... thanksgiving is the worst holiday ever. wow, lets eat a bunch of **** because some people came here.

That is true.
Optimistic people are too afraid of reality because they know how bad reality sucks, so they act like everything is sunshine and happiness. It's BS. Reality sucks. Life sucks. It's time that people realize that life is just one crappy day followed by another and that people will just screw you over anyway. It's time to be realistic people.

Well I'm glad you regretted it, because suicide is never the answer to your problems. You need someone you can trust to listen to you. Life is way to short, in my opinion, to end it on your own.

Maybe you'd be happier with life if you understood that everyone in the world is not out to make you miserable.

Not true. Suicide is always an option. And an answer. Kill yourself and that's it: No more problems. You're dead.
You'll never have anyone to trust or to listen because no one cares. People only care about themselves. They don't care about you or your problems. They'll just mess up your life anyway... mess it up even more than it is already messed up.
No, life isn't short. Life is long and boring. It's force yourself out of bed every morning and face the smelly ****hole that is the world. You work every day, not having any fun, and you put up with disgusting people who don't even notice you or care about you, but it doesn't matter because they are all jackasses who suck anyway and you want to murder them. Then you go home, tired and exhausted, go to sleep, wake up the next morning and it all starts over again. You never have any money. It never ends. Nothing changes.

Well I'm glad you gave me that answer. Because if my friend, Sonya, who was a genocide survivor from Rwanda, Africa heard that advice, she wouldn't be a crisis counselor today. That advice would've cured her from all of her rape and severe beating nightmares that she encountered every night, from her past experiences in her country.
How could I be so fooled.

Why are you asking me if it's true or not? Is that a rhetorical question? Because if I actually believed that trash than I wouldn't have called it a "pile of crap" in the first place.
And no, you're wrong. I'm not looking to turn small things into big issues.

I said it was an option and an answer, not that it was the ONLY option and the ONLY answer. For a lot of people, suicide is the solution to their problems. That obviously wasn't the case for your friend Sonya. But just because she went through a lot and still wanted to live doesn't mean that it's the same for millions of other people.
I don't care what anyone does. If they want to end their lives than that's fine. It's their business. Yeah, it's sad, but it's their decision.

Well my sister had talked about it, and I made it loud and clear to her. If she decides to kill herself because she doesn't want to fight her cancer, I WILL refuse to attend her funeral. Period. I will not listen to a person who believes in failure or giving up. She made it this far, and she has no excuse to stop fighting cancer now. And I'll will fight it with her at every step of the way, as long as she doesn't give up.

That's definately the best thing you can say to her. Fighting cancer is all about the mind set, and giving up is not an option!

And if I have to be a bitch about it, So be it. She can either be a hero or a coward to me. She's got the message, and so far....I'm very proud of her. You gotta talk tough to your loved ones sometimes. :)

I understand why a person would kill themselves if they had cancer. If they don't want to suffer any longer than I think it's very understandable. Some people just don't want to fight anymore. They get tired. Some people fail. Some people give up. What they want to do is their choice.
Sorry about your sister. Cancer is a tough thing to go through. I hope she gets better.
