After watching Tim Daly and Steven Weber's versatility in WINGS' "Life Could Be A Dream" episode, I find it surprising that neither guy has ever hosted "Saturday Night Live". (At least as far as I KNOW neither one has).

Both of them have the ability to play various types of characters (remember Tim's burned-out hippie, Steven's "Sean Connery as James Bond" impression and both of them playing pathetic nerds and over-the-top feminine-acting hairdressers?). Both guys have what it takes to play various parts in comedy sketches, and I think that they would be a LOT better at hosting SNL (and appearing in various sketches) than some of these extremely unfunny celebs that have been hosting it.

I just wish that Tim and Steven would get more opportunities to show their versatility and ability at "different character" sketch comedy.

I didn't even think of that and I didn't realize before that neither Tim or Steven have hosted SNL, along with any of the other cast members. You'd think that with both shows being on NBC....but how many times have we said that NBC never gave Wings the respect it deserved? Either of them might have surprised us, yes, granted they are mainly comedic actors, but I've seen plenty of hosts for SNL, that I'm thinking What the heck are they doing hosting? Take for instance, David Duchovney. I wasn't much of an X-Files viewer, and that was the only thing I knew him from and I figure his character was a real serious one, so he would be, too. Who knew he was so funny when he hosted SNL?

But who knows, maybe Tim & Steven WERE both asked to host but they were both just too busy doing other things to host. Maybe they couldn't get out of their obligations to Wings. I heard those TV shows put in 16 hours a day.

I never thought of that before, but it would have been awesome for Tim or Steven to host an episode of Saturday Night Live!! Better yet, they should host an episode together!
you're right, pilotguy- they seem to be able to play any type of part, especially funny ones, very well. Oh, that would have been great to see one (or both) of them host SNL. Maybe someday... you never know!

and phoebe- I agree with you about David Duchovney when he hosted SNL! I kind of knew he was a funny guy, from some X-Files outtakes that I've seen, and I agree that he did a great job that time he hosted SNL. He was sooo funny!

Another SNL "shocker" was when Dylan McDermott hosted the show. That deadpan guy NEVER cracked a smile when he played Bobby Donnell on "The Practice", but he was hilarious in the SNL sketches. (He even did a wild, over-the-top takeoff on Chris Kattan's "Mango" character!).

Some of my biggest SNL disappointments have been when certain TV sitcom stars have hosted the show....You THINK that they're going to be funny, and they end up being dull, major league DUDS!

However, I really think that Tim and Steven have the ability to be excellent (and funny) SNL hosts.

lol really? Dylan McDermott could be funny? I can't picture that one. haha.

The cool thing about that guy is that he grew up in the town right nextdoor to mine. A fellow Connecticuttian!

Pilotguy, I always wondered about that when Wings was on NBC because I thought Steven, Tim and Crystal all would have been great on SNL, and being that they could have brought them on to promote an NBC show made perfect sense.

But NBC just never seemed to want to invest ANYTHING into the show. And it wasn't like Wings never had any following. It was a top 20 show ratings wise at least two or three seasons. But I still contend that just goes to show how solid the show was because Wings got pretty decent ratings even though it got no real push from NBC and was constantly moved around the time schedule.

I do remember somewhere around 1993 or 1994 the cast of Wings was on Donahoe or Opra or one of those day time talk shows. But of course NBC had nothing to do with that.

As usual, the show just never got respect. I still get mad every time I think about NBC not even giving the show a mention at the 75th celebration.

Yep! It's true. I always thought if they ever made a Wings DVD it would be a great thing to have as bonus material.

I never watch daytime talk shows. Not that there's anything wrong with them, I've just never gotten into those kind of shows.

But I came home one day and was flipping through the channels and I saw Farrah Forke sitting there being inteviewed, and I went "hey there's Alex" and in a moment I could see that almost the entire cast of Wings was sitting there. I probably ended up only seeing a third or maybe half of it but I remember it being quite enjoyable. I destinctly remember seeing Farrah and David Schramm talking about the show and I was just thrilled the show was getting ANY publicity. It's been so long ago, I can't remember for certain, but I think David didn't have his mustache and I remember thinking how different he looked without it.

That moment, and when they did the tv spot promotion of the show when they all dressed in black making fun of a perfume commercial were two of the best moments for Wings fans.

Worse yet, they lumped Wings in with the "bad and unsuccessful" TV shows during their pathetic 20 Years of Must-See-TV special. I don't see how a show that lasted for 8 seasons and had decent ratings for most of those years can be labelled unsuccessful. I know I've said it before and I'll say it again: I will NEVER understand the animosity towards Wings. I think it had all the elements of a great sitcom.

Note to NBC execs: I would rather watch shows like Wings, Cheers, NewsRadio, and Scrubs than shows like Friends, Will & Grace, and those awful reality shows. The latter shows I mentioned have never been Must-See-TV for me. Once Scrubs and ER are gone, I doubt I'll be watching NBC anymore. NBC equals Nothing But Crap now.

Nothing But Crap?! That's pretty funny!! :lol: I'd like to see a sign like that in the stands at a sporting event. Then again, do you really think NBC would put the camera for the whole country to see on a sign like that?

After this season when Friends & Frasier both go off the air, I can see NBC's ratings going seriously down the tubes.

Hey Snoopy, I watched that 20 years of Must-See TV, and I don't remember the part where Wings was lumped in with the "bad & unsuccessful". Believe me, I would've remembered that when it came to Wings. I do remember a segment where they were showing programs that tried to succeed following Friends, but failed. "Stark Raving Mad" was mentioned, but Wings, I don't recall that.
