My school competed in Mathcounts competition (where you go & compete against other schools by doing math problems) today.
Our team came in 9th place out of 24 schools & out of 160 some kids I placed 63rd!
Just thought I would share that with SO members.
If you would like to see some of the problems like we have to solve visit:

Problem for 02/09/04 :
On some graph paper, graph the following segments:
y = x, for 0 ¡Ü x ¡Ü 2

y = 2x - 2, for 2 ¡Ü x ¡Ü 3

x = 3, for 4 ¡Ü y ¡Ü 6

y = -x + 9, for 2 ¡Ü x ¡Ü 3

y = 7, for 1 ¡Ü x ¡Ü 2

y = x + 6, for 0 ¡Ü x ¡Ü 1

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now reflect each of the segments over the y-axis. What popular shape have you drawn?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is the area of the region you have enclosed with this Valentine shape?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Using your complete picture, now perform a dilation with center (0, 4) and a scale factor of 2. What is be the area of this new shape?

Great job! :D I went to a math competition this year, too. It was only an eighth grade thing, and there were only 8 kids that went. My school is dumb, though, so I didn't even ask where we placed. :lol:

English is more my thing. I went to a competition for that in 7th and placed first. :cheer:
