View Full Version : how long is cj staying? FrithFan89 02-14-2004, 06:01 PM i really luv cj, so i was wondering if how long he is supposed to be on the show? Mr. Television 02-14-2004, 06:26 PM He has joined the cast as a regular now. FrithFan89 02-14-2004, 06:34 PM yay i was hoping for that i think him and grampa make a hillarious team strawberryrose 02-15-2004, 11:12 AM If I were Cate I'd make him pay rent! CJ is nothing but a pathetic 30-something freeloader taking advantage of his poor widowed Aunt's generosity! Nice to see Grandpa kicking his bony butt once in awhile! FrithFan89 02-15-2004, 05:24 PM i know he's a freeloader thats what makes him funny newlife 02-17-2004, 01:46 PM I really don't care for David Spade so much, but he is pretty funny w/ the grandfather. I think he should stay. David 02-17-2004, 06:14 PM forever and ever and ever... :) until he gets fired 8SimpleRulesGrl 02-18-2004, 10:42 AM He probably won't be in the show as much now since he's supposed to be staying in the college housing. He will be there for the dinners though. Chain Gang Member 02-18-2004, 11:19 AM yay i was hoping for that i think him and grampa make a hillarious team When they brought James Garner in after John died, the show wasn't funny anymore. Then they brought David Spade in and it is fun to watch again.David is bringing the show back Joeylova87 02-18-2004, 12:10 PM I think CJ is pretty cool. He's going to stay on the show for the rest of the season. Spade may be funny, but he always plays the same character, and his humor gets a little tired after awhile. I certainly don't believe his humor can compare to John Ritter. If he's the only reason he's making it fun again, than I think the show is in serious trouble. Chain Gang Member 02-19-2004, 12:38 PM I don't know if I quite agree with that. If he's the only reason he's making it fun again, than I think the show is in serious trouble. I know that David isn't as funny as John Ritter was(believe me,I am a John Ritter fan all the way),but I'm saying that if they just had James Garner and no David Spade, the show wouldn't be as funny Honda Rider 02-20-2004, 10:35 AM Do you think Spade's is the only reason it's funny again, or do you think it's a 50/50 with Spade and Garner? FrithFan89 02-20-2004, 08:53 PM Originally posted by Honda Rider Do you think Spade's is the only reason it's funny again, or do you think it's a 50/50 with Spade and Garner? well, Garner isnt very funny without spade, but spade is pretty funny without garner, but he's funnier with him. so i think its like 60/40. MistyDoll 02-20-2004, 09:24 PM The show was alright when they brought in Gramps but I feel adding David Spade was just unnessary. I find Spade to be tolerable but his shtick is wearing thin already! Honda Rider 02-20-2004, 11:16 PM I agree that Spade's schtick is wearing thin already, especially since this character seems to be practically identical to all the other character's he plays. But since his role may be reduced, with him in school now, I think it should work out. I also personally think James Garner is very funny, and I have ever since I saw "My Fellow American's." I think they give him some pretty poor lines sometimes though, (Ie... "Just Grin and Eat it." ) I don't even think Ritter could have made that line funny. FrithFan89 02-21-2004, 12:21 PM David Spade played both cj and finch, and i don't think they're the same. cj is a drugy, has no job, and lives in a van. finch is not a druggy, has a great job, and lives in a nice apartment.so i have to dissagree, spades charactors are not all exactly the same, but they're oviously similar, i mean they are played by the same guy. Honda Rider 02-21-2004, 04:53 PM I didn't mean they were going to be the same person, I meant that all his characters are the exact same type, weaseling, perverted, sarcastic types often involved in some kind of scam, and often leaching off others. Finch and CJ might have different backgrounds, but the characteristics are very much alike. I don't know if David Spade has the versatilitly to play outside those characters. FrithFan89 02-21-2004, 06:25 PM i am sure he could play outside those characters but thats not what abc wanted. spade is a very talented actor, so i'm sure that if abc wanted him to be different he could. but i personally like cj the way he is and i know plenty of other people that feel the same way. PinkCutieK 02-22-2004, 11:44 AM i think david spade is great on the cast of 8 simples rules. and this is a quote straight from kaley cuoco "i hadn't laughed off camera since john died and now that david's here i can laugh again. the whole cast can". that's likely not the EXACT quote, but she said pretty much that when interviewed on On Air With Ryan Seacrest and she said the whole cast is doing a lot better off camera than they were before david came to the cast. kaley really thinks he's good for the show and appreciates his jokes and jovial nature...and i'm sure the cast knows best. Honda Rider 02-22-2004, 12:47 PM Well, I'll go along with the cast knows best, and that Spade is making them laugh again, but I think calling him a very talented actor is a bit of a stretch. I've yet to see him tackle drama, or any other genre for that matter. John Ritter was accomplished in both, and you're right, he's what the cast is lacking most. FrithFan89 02-24-2004, 06:16 PM i understand that spade doesnt do much drama, but he's still talented. i also understand that john ritter can never be replaced, but lets face it without ritter the show needed some help and i think that spade has really helped alot. |
