I have many old 60's videos that I taped off A&E several years ago. It was called "The Golden Age Of Rock And Roll". (John Sebastian hosted it )Several of these groups/singers were featured on what looks like a dance show of some kind. They had regular kids dancing and during the acts there were regular dancers in the background(sort of go -go dancers I guess!).I was just wondering if anybody here knows what/where this show was? I think it was probably a local California based show.I have seen many videos on VH1 etc. at the same place. Anybody know? Thanks!:happyface

No it wasn't Hullabaloo. These vidoes are in black and white. I still think that these were filmed from a dance show (sort of like American Bandstand) When someone would perform the dancers were behind them dancing The Jerk, The Monkey, The Watusi, etc. These excerpts were definitely taken off some dance show (where teens danced like American Bandstand) . There were a wide variety of bands/singers like Sonny and Cher, Lovin' Spoonful,Sam The Sham and the Pharaoh's, etc.

As I stated before, it looks like it was some local LA or California dance show!!
And to add to that. Compared to American Bandstand it looked kind of amateurish. Well a lot of videos of the 60's groups were obviously taken from here. So at the time it must have been a well-known show!

Would it be "Shindig"?? It lasted on ABC from 1964 to 1966. I believe all of the artists that you mentioned appeared on that show.

No No! Let me try to explain this again!
This was some kind of show like American Bandstand. The teens would come in and dance. And there were also dancers up on a stage or platform in the background. I am sure that it was a local show. It's just that several groups/singers were on there and filmed. Obviously this show was a source of video material for some of the oldies videos we see on VH1 Classics, etc.
It looks to me like it was probably filmed in California and had some clout, due to the fact that many big name groups of the era appeared on there at the time!
Do any of you "older" members or music buffs(aka AKA) know what this show was? Or where I could find out?

Penny Lane, there was a show here in California that was a local show called "Boss City". I was really young when this was on but my mother used to watch, and I vaugely remember artist like Sonny and Cher, and alot of other big name 60's bands being on the show. The host was named Don Steele. Is this the show?
Hope this helps.

I have been searching the net for anything pertaining to your suggestion. It certainly may have been Boss City. It seems that Don Steele was a famous DJ at the time in LA. But unfortunately there is little or nothing there that describes the show!:( Do you remember the girl dancers in the background dancing with every song and performer? Thanks for giving me something tangible to investigate! All I know is that I have several 60's videos recorded that have this show has a backdrop! So I am just curious as to what this show was!
Thanks!

Wish I would be of more help. All I remember is that Boss City was a locally produced show. I searched under 93KHJ which were the call letters for the radio station at that time, or try under KHJ which was the television stations call letters, and also under Boss City. did you try searching under 60's dance shows? Hope you find out what show it was, I know how things like that can drive you crazy until you find out what it is. Like you I'm a fan of the 60's and love all of those things. Good luck with your search.
