Okay, I won't be on tomorrow night, so I thought someone needed a little fic!!!! ;) I hope everyone enjoys. It's a LITTLE far fetched, but I'm sure THIS is how DJL MEANT for season 4 to start out as!!! ;)
**************************
CD walked into the Division. “Hey guys, I’m back,” she announced
sheepishly.
Nate looked up and his jaw practically hit the ground. It had been
months since the last time he’d seen her.
“CD!” Raina shouted and ran to hug her.
“Hi, Raina, thanks for the welcome!” she replied and looked over at
Nate, who glanced back down at his report.
“CD?” her captain asked as she came out of her office.
“Hey, Cap,” CD said and hugged her as well. “I, uh, need to talk to
you, I guess.”
“You want your job back?” she asked hopefully.
CD smiled. “As a matter of fact.. yes, yes, I do.”
“That’s great!” Jinny exclaimed who’d just walked in and embraced
her friend. “Oh my gosh, where have you been?”
CD grinned. “I had some living to do before I could continue my
life,” she explained. “Actually, I did some traveling, and I went and
visited my best friend from high school.”
“Where does she live?” Raina asked nosily.
CD smiled, missing her gossipy friend. “Germany, actually, so I
spent a couple of weeks there. We caught up after all these years; eating pizzas with those cracker holes on the bottom, eating American Twix bars, and drinking Snapples until we puked.” she grinned. “I had the time of my life.”
“Aw, that’s too bad you had to leave her!” Kate said.
CD shrugged. “Not really.”
Nate had walked over a little closer but not said a word until now.
“Yeah, it’s easy for you to leave the people who love you the most.”
CD looked at him, obviously hurt, but she knew she deserved it.
“Hello to you too, Nate,” she replied. “And actually, it wasn’t too
bad leaving her because she’s moving over here! Her plane leaves in 2 days, and she’ll be staying with me until she finds an apartment.”
“That’s so cool, CD! What’s her name?” Raina asked.
“Catrin, but her good friends just call her Cat,” CD explained. “She
was a German exchange student when we were in high school, she moved back after graduation, but now she’s coming back to stay. I’m so excited!”
“How wonderful; at least you can commit to some of your
relationships,” Nate muttered and walked to the men’s room.
CD sighed. “Guess I won’t be making friends as quickly as I
thought,” she replied sadly.
Raina touched her shoulder. “CD, give him time. You hurt him
deeply; he hasn’t told me everything, but I’ve been his partner, so I forced him to tell some.”
CD nodded. “That’s understandable,” she remarked and turned to
Kate. “So Cap, if I want to come back, do I have a job here?”
“Of course!” Kate promised her. “You won’t be partnered with
Nate, but due to the tragic and mysterious death of Magda, you
could be partnered with Jinny.”
“Really? Wow, I had no idea about Mag!”
Jinny shrugged. “Yeah, ya win some, ya lose some.”
Everyone else nodded.
“Well, Inspectors, you need to get back to work, and CD?”
“Yeah?”
“Go talk to Nate; get this settled before it gets outta hand.”
CD sighed and nodded. “Okay, Cap, I’m on it,” she replied and
walked to the restroom.
Nate was sulking and sitting on the bench when CD opened the
door.
“Hi,” she practically whispered.
“What the hell do you want?” he asked, although it tore him up
inside to be so mean to her.
“Nate, please, before you yell at me, I really need to explain for
being such a bitch.”
“That could take hours,” Nate muttered.
CD simply nodded. “You’re right; I’ll give you the condensed version then.” she paused and made sure he didn’t object, which he didn’t. “Nate, you scared me out of my mind after we got so close. I didn’t think I could handle a marriage ever again, and it freaked me out how quickly we were coming to that stage!”
“I never pushed you.....”
“You’re right you never tied me down and said, ‘CD, do this,’ but I
felt so trapped. I had to get out, and I did.”
“Yeah and went to Germany?!” he exclaimed. “Why the hell would
you go there?”
She nodded. “I know you think it’s weird, but you’re gonna want to thank her.”
“Yeah right,” he muttered.
“You will! Cat told me how stupid I was being, and that I’m
obviously in love with you, and I was just scared.” she paused. “She saved my life, Nate. I was going to make the biggest mistake I’ve ever made, but I’m back to change it.”
“What if it’s too late?” he asked her angrily.
She sighed. “Then I guess I can say, at least I tried. I just want you
to know that you did absolutely nothing wrong to me, and I love you
so much, even now.” she delayed for a second. “And I’m sorry I’m
too late, I just needed you to know,” she said sadly and walked
toward the door.
Nate let her walk out, and he looked at himself in the mirror. He
hadn’t noticed the tears that had started to stream down his face.
He angrily brushed them away and muttered, “She’s not just
walking back into my life whenever the hell she wants.”
He finished wiping his face and went back outside. He saw her
sitting in Raina’s new desk, her old one, as Raina had insisted her
doing while she ran off some copies.
Emotions flooded back, and Nate decided he knew he’d never win
at hardball with her. Plus, she was too big of a prize to gamble
with. He walked briskly to her and put his arms around her.
CD looked up and grinned slightly from his touch.
He bent down and kissed her forcefully on the lips.
She kissed him right back, until he pulled away.
“You learned ALL of that over Snapple and pizza?” he asked her as
he bent down, holding her and running his hands through her hair.
She smiled broadly. “You have no idea how persuasive and
comprehensive my friend is!” she bragged on her.
“I can’t wait to find out!” he replied and kissed her again. “I missed
you so much, CD, please don’t ever leave me again.”
She shook her head. “I won’t, Nate, I, too, love you so much, that I
never want to spend a day away from you.” She put her hands
around his neck and kissed him intently on the lips.
Raina came back in the room, as well as Stacey.
“Who’s that” Stacey whined.
“CD, his girlfriend,” Raina explained.
“Dammit, I wanted him.”
“Back your ass up, bitch, he’s taken!” a voice exclaimed behind her.
CD looked up, recognizing that voice anywhere. “CAT!” she shouted
and ran to her, giving her a huge hug.
“Hey, I see it worked,” she grinned as Nate walked toward them.
“Hi, I’m Nate Basso, and you must be my new second best friend.”
“Why do you say that?” Cat asked.
“Because I got my BEST friend back,” he responded and put his
arms around CD.
Cat grinned. “That’s the most important thing.”
CD nodded. “Hey, I thought you weren’t coming for 2 more days?”
Cat smirked. “I wanted to surprise you! Did I?”
“Of course you did!” CD exclaimed and hugged her again. “I love it
when you surprise me!”
“I love it when you talk some sense into my woman!” Nate
announced.
CD laughed and kissed him. “I love you, honey.”
“I love you more than anything, CD.”
Cat grinned and sat with Raina and Stacey.
“They won’t really stay together, will they?” Stacey whined as they
looked on at the two lovers on top of Nate’s desk heavily making
out. CD’s shirt was already halfway unbuttoned.
“Uh, no, definitely not,” Cat joked.
“Duh, Stacey, look at them!” Raina exclaimed.
“I don’t see it working,” Stacey replied again.
“Why don’t you shut the hell up and leave two decent people
alone?!” Cat shouted.
“You shut up, you meanie!” Stacey muttered, bawling hysterically.
“BITE ME!” Cat shouted and punched her lights out.
THE END!!!
