I wish I had MORE 80s stations in my area! There's only one in Maine (KISS 99.9) and they only play ONE 80s song on the hour and then they play that current adult pop crap.
There are TWO Top 40 stations, one plays the good music (92 MOOSE 92.3), usually dancepop and then the OTHER (Q97.9) plays a really sped-up, disorted repeat playlist and pre-recorded DJs. All the people at my school LOVE Q 97.9 and I can't seem to convince any of 'em that the station is run completely on computers.
At least 92.3 and 99.9 are done live, thank God. I think Q97.9 is owned by Clear Channel. I've read bad things about them.

hehe well, I'm not huge into the oldies... I do LOOOOVE 80's music, though!!!
but I do like a lot of stuff from the 60's and 70's too (the henry the 8th song is from the 60's, right?).

No, Q 97.9 is actually owned by Citadel. I did a search. Well, I guess they're the devil, too :).

and oh yeah, "Backtrax USA" is a nationwide show, I believe. they play it here on one station on Sunday mornings, and another station on Sunday nights. i think it's weird how half of that show is 90's stuff now.

Wingshock, only THREE songs from the Beatles?!! I guess if you had to narrow it down....As for me, there are SOOO many songs from them that I like, I don't think I could narrow it down to just 3.

Last weekend, I guess all the oldies radio stations were celebrating 40 years since the Beatles first hit America, so of course, they were playing alot of Beatles. Then on Monday night, I caught a station out of Chicago that was playing all their albums in order. I was only able to catch 'Magical Mystery Tour', 'The White Album', 'Yellow Submarine', and started hearing 'Abbey Road' before I started losing the frequency. I was in heaven!!

Speaking of 'Ticket to Ride', back when Eddie Murphy was on Saturday Night Live, he & Joe Piscopo did a skit where Eddie claimed he was the 5th Beatle named Clarence, and before he got kicked out by the other 4, he used to write all the songs. Joe Piscopo asked him to give an example of what he wrote, and this is how Eddie said it:

"She Loves You was originally called She Loves You, Man; Help was originally called Help Me, Man; and Ticket to Ride was originally called She's Got a Ticket to Ride and the bitch don't care."

I just remember really laughing at that last part and I still start to chuckle when I hear "Ticket to Ride". Damn that SNL.

So anyhoo, a couple years ago, my sister & I went to see Paul McCartney in concert. We parked the car in the parking garage down the street from the arena, and as we were walking down the street, a few of the cars in the traffic was blaring Beatles songs out of their cars. Well, somebody was playing Ticket to Ride, and out of the blue, my sister says "She's got a ticket to ride and the bitch don't care". I just cracked up, because I wasn't even thinking of that, and it was totally unexpected. Then again, my sister is very witty, and some of the stuff that comes out of her mouth! I don't know how she thinks of it.

Yeah, I had to narrow down everything to make that list... because I love so many thousands of songs. That was my cream of the crop list, as in, "I've heard this song 1000 times and I'll never get tired of hearing it," list. :)

Music I like?

For me it would have to be pretty much any song on any given Phil Collins album, except for Dance Into the Light and Testify. Those two were less then spectacular.

Of course there's Thomas Dolby's The Golden Age of Wireless. There isn't a song on there I DON'T like...

Frankie Goes to Hollywood - BANG. Rage Hard, Relax, Two Tribes, ect.

Genesis - Abacab. Here's another album where all the tracks are good.

OutKast - Speakerboxxx/The Love Below. I've had this two-disc set in my CD player for over a month now. I tend to listen to The Love Below disc more than the Speakerboxxx disc.

Spice Girls - Spice. Okay, I'll admit it. I still listen to them. Spice is superior to Spiceworld, too. A better track listing.

The Rembrandts - LP. I've had this since I got my first CD player back in '95 and it STILL plays, despite tons of scratches. I always avoid the Friends theme, which just happens to be the final track.

Ace of Base - The Sign. I still have it on cassette! I REALLY need it on CD. It's always a pick-me-up album. The same can be said for their album The Bridge.

The Simpsons Sing the Blues. I LOVE 'Look at All Those Idiots' sang by Mr. Burns and Smithers. I vote Thomas Haden Church to do a remake!

Ange, nothing wrong with listening to the Spice Girls. I love Barry Manilow, although I'm sure alot of people scoff at that. Hey, the man has been in the music business 30+ years and is still going strong.

I listed some of my faves a while back. Hard to narrow it down, I love so much music. Right now, I've been listening to a CD called "Scenes from a Memory" from an absolutely awesome band called Dream Theater(I know Krista is familiar with them). I've been listening to them for about 10 years, and I've been listening to this CD constantly.

yeah, Phil Collins and Genesis are really cool.
My favorite Phil Collins songs are "In The Air Tonight", and "Easy Lover" (that one's Phil Collins and Philip Bailey).

and yes, phoebe- Dream Theater is great! They're coming to CT in April or May, and I'm hoping that I'll be able to see them this year!

I like 'Just a Job to Do', 'Silver Rainbow' (mostly for the cool synths) 'Me & Sarah Jane' and 'Like it or Not'.

I didn't say anything about "No Jacket Required"! I bought the album on CD a while ago and 'We Said Hello, Goodbye' was the only track that was fairly new to me (my mother has it on a 33" record, minus the final track).

I was lucky to find a used copy of the soundtrack to BUSTER when the Strawberry's Music store re-opened around here (I live in Maine, so geographically speaking, it was originally in Auburn until four years ago and then it turned up in Augusta a while ago).
The song 'Big Noise' from that soundtrack was actually what got me really into Phil Collins in the first place.

I have both BUSTER and Frauds on VHS (found 'em at rental places used) I'm waiting to update them.

I think I'm a Phil Collins fan on the same level that I am a Thomas Haden Church fan, except Thomas Dolby is slowly replacing Phil Collins as my favorite musical artist. Probibly because I love computers and he has that whole 'tech nerd' thing going on, you know how it works...
I actually had the Beatnik Mixman downloaded on my old Macintosh when it was first introduced online in 1999. :)
I recently went back to the Mixman website to find that the service was no longer available :( No more fun music mixing! WAAA!

Yes, Krista, I KNOW!! They're touring up north the next few months!! They aren't coming anywhere south.:grr: :wallbang

You'd think that they'd want to tour down here in the winter because it's a bit warmer. I know the band Rush used to tour down here in Feb.& Mar. because they were big fans of the Toronto Blue Jays, and would come down here not only to tour but to see the Blue Jays in spring training.

Oh well, DT has a current CD so hopefully they'll do more touring in the summer and come down here!!

Same here! Whenever I think of oldies, I think of 1950's and 60's, not the stuff I grew up with.

I don't like rap or hip-hop either, unless Weird Al is singing it! At the Super Bowl half-time show, Nelly was up there singing his song and I was singing the Weird Al version:

I like almost EVERY kind of music too!! You should see my music collection. Very... ecclectic. I always say, Ted Nugent to Bob Marley... but I also like my dad's old records. He had Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass (that was GREAT stuff!!) and polynesian, polka, you name it.

The list I posted earlier was my rock list... I could come up with a few other lists on top of that!!! :rock:

Actually, I'm into the old MIDI stuff that they used to have on the SEGA Genesis, SNES, ect. It would be nice if someone would turn the ORIGINAL tracks from the games into one big CD collection.

lol yeah! I love some of the midi music from the Super Niuntendo games! like F-Zero, Secret Of Mana, Mario World, and a bunch of others. some of that stuff is really cool. My brother found a rock version of one of the songs from Mystic Quest. It's soooo cool!

And all summer, I've been listening to "Thinking Over" by Dana Glover. It's a couple years old, but I've rediscovered it, and I LOOOOOOVE that song! Most of her other songs that I've heard are too sappy for me, but I just heard this really cool one called "The Way". Great song!
