I don't appreciate my topic about not wanting to work with blacks being closed. America is about freedom of speech & if i wanna post a topic like that, it shouldn't get closed. Ya'll are some wussies on this board.

It's the mods who closed that thread. So when you say "Ya'll are some wussies on this board" you might as well "the mods are wussies on this board". :grr:

[not that I think that] :p

Well, evidently whatever you said was extremely offensive (not that saying working with blacks is bad and a good way isnt offensive.. but you get what Im saying) and shouldnt be posted. Not for anything, but this isnt a board made for racism comments and such- its for sitcoms. Im all for freedom of speech, but this isnt the place to do it.

I never said I couldn't handle it, I just didn't like the whole stereotypical attitude about it. And Lauren's right, we're not the ones who closed it.

Isn't Isiah Thomas black?

You don't want to work with your own race?

Anyway, your topic did not bother me.

The topic didn't bother me at all. I don't think it's offensive to say something negative about your own race. Personally, I really don't like ANY kind of people, that's why I have only a couple really close friends. I think isaiahthomas should be allowed to post what she wants and not have the board closed- it's called the Bill of Rights.

The topic didn't bother me. Say what you want to say and if people are offended by it than they don't have to read it and reply to it. You can hate blacks if you want, I don't give a ****. I hate pretty much everyone anyway.

Well, I am half-Asian half-white so I accept all races and also I am part-Indian as well!!

Great attitude towards life! How do you hold down a job--because you're going to have to learn to deal with all sorts of people in your life or else live in a cave like a hermit. :(

Vera Wang i'm a he, not a she LOL. Lurkernomore i'm black & there's nothin odd about not wanting to work around your own people. Chris Rock said something in his standup one time talkin about blacks hate niqqaz hahahahahahahahahahahahaha. I know what he's talkin about too. U got educated blacks who hate ghetto niqqaz. Ghetto niqqaz mess it up for blacks who are trying to be respectable people & educated. Like for example, my job is a cigarette merchandiser & i go to stores in the hood putting up cigarette signs. This liquor store i went to today had some black dudes standing outside killing time talkin s**t. It's like this everytime i go to that liquor store. Can't these dudes find a damn job instead of hangin in front of a liquor store all day? I also go to this Shell gas station to put up cigarette signs for Marlboro & it always be some black dudes hangin in front of that gas station trying to bum some money. Go get a damn job. I get tired of them asking me for money. That's exactly why i don't like going to the hood to go to these stores. Nobody should feel sorry for these homeless people who always beggin. Nobody made them become homeless. They became homeless because they're lazy & don't wanna work. Ghetto niqqaz always wanna rob u too cause u got more money than they got or u got a better car than them. Instead of going to work for what they wanna get, they'd rather rob somebody. Poor whites do the same thing too so i just don't wanna say blacks do this.

I agree in that I don't think it is offensive to say something bad about your own race. I wouldn't call his comments racist because he is black. But I'm sure not everybody knows that he is African-American. A while back he posted a thread about Randy Moss and used the "N" word in the thread title. What if an African-American saw that and didn't know he was black? That's a big concern of mine (and most likely the other moderators) because you can't tell a person's race on a message board unless they say their race or post a pic of themself.

And regarding that last sentence in the above quote, that is not how it works on message boards. That is a common misconception about free speech. When you registered on these boards, you voluntarily gave up some kinds of speech (offensive speech, etc.) While I don't think IT's remarks about blacks are offensive, considering he is black, I do think it was wise of Janice to close that thread and edit his post. The mods have the right to edit posts at their own discretion. She didn't do it to be mean. Like I said before, you never know if someone who is African-American reads posts like that and doesn't know he is black.

Ok im really sorry for coming back but i saw this and had to reply to it.

Isiahthomas, freedom of speech means that you can say anything you want without getting in trouble with the GOVERNMENT. when you signed up here you agreed not to post anything like that. even if youre black too, thats still being stereotypical and rude.

or else live in a cave like a hermit. :(
i'd rather.

Amen, Brian! I couldn't have said it better myself. That's exactly what I was thinking. :)

The Sitcoms Online Message Boards are privately-owned. Therefore, absolute freedom of speech is checked at the door. What Can and Can't be said is moderator/administrator's discretion.

That's just the way it is, I'm afraid. The SO boards are generally fairly liberal about what can/can't be said, but, due to the possibility of overly sensitive people, or people who don't know the person posting it and their relative context, some things DO have to be done away with for the overall sanity of the boards.

(PErsonally, *I* think that there DOES need to be regulation on boards, just because I've seen what happens WITHOUT [cough]Usenet[cough]). )

Yes, most of us who've been here for any length of time know that you're black, so it's not even as remotely offensive as if, say, *I* (the stereotypical white guy) say the N word. But, what if Joe Q. User walks in off the cyber-street, and sees that post. They're likely to go off the deep-end, and, well, that's just not good for anybody. Besides, there's some users (Won't mention names) who ARE overly sensitive about things, and, whether anyone likes it or not, have to be watched out for.

I buy that. I mean, sometimes it's hard to get a job...especially if you have a drug/jail record...but some people don't try. White, Black, Asian...whoever. It's all the same.

Or for the extreme polar opposite: The Fametracker boards, where I saw that you get banned for starting a post with "Um."

So too much regulation is just as bad. I think this board, for the most part, has a nice medium.
