Hi everyone, i'm a 21 year old student in the UK and am currently writing a thesis on sitcoms!

I desperately need as much help as i can get!!!!

My topic area is on the transferability of sitcoms from UK to the US and vice versa.

Now i need your help on a couple of questions if you dont mind!?!

Why do you think that for a UK sitcom to be successful in the US, it is adapted, so the characters are often changed, aswell as the setting, different pronunciation of jokes etc... However in the UK, sitcoms from USA are untouched yet still as popular as in its own country! Is it down to do with National id, culture, networks????

Anybody who would like to share their views on this would be gratefully accepted!warrielad@yahoo.co.uk

You can use Coupling as an example- it's the big bomb of the season.

Cybill was an Ab Fab clone, and Cosby came from some British show.

Good luck on the thesis- I'm writing one two, only on Juan Rulfo's writing and the Mexican Revolution. Your's sounds so much more fun!

To clarify, "Cosby" was the US equivelent to the UK's "One Foot In The Grave"
