Friends?-LOL Michael never had any friends his age and Thelma had no girlfriends come to the house in the first four seasons. It wasn;t until the 5th season that you saw Thelma with a friend. And all J.J had was female he went out with. No male friends at all until the 5th season which were the foursome. I guess in the 5th season we saw their friends more because there was no Florida or James.

I always find that strange in most t.v series that the characters have either no friends or cousins.

Who was Shorty?
Shorty was the man who brought James the money in the first episode. James said he had a "connection" in the projects administration. He also came and broke the bad news of J.J.'s arrest when he was a suspect in the liquor store hold up. Now that I think of it, his name might have been Monty.

I remember when that happened- and what was weird was that he banged on the door, Thelma answered it and he whispered the news so quietly that only Thelma herself could hear and react to it! Was he afraid of James' reaction to interrupting his dancing with Florida? Why didn't he tell James and Florida (JJ's parents) the news instead of just whispering it to Thelma?

In the third season Thelma had a friend over to study french. James Sr. was there so it could not have been the fifth season. "A loss of Confidence" was the name of the episode and it aired December 9, 1975.:dog:

You are right. That may have been her only one. I forgot about her.

Friends really were not the focus of the show. That is why we did not see them very often.
