¤I Love Clay Aiken¤ 02-11-2004, 11:10 PM Hello my children, I make this thread because I need motivation because, I, myself dont believe in myself. My best friend was saying she wants to start losing weight, and, to be honest- I could really stand to lose some! Im not one to talk about my body issues with friends and family because Im so insecure about it and it makes me feel uncomfortable when its mentioned- even when people say 'Have you lost weight? You look good'- it makes me uncomfortable. Its like I dont like people noticing even when its good. Aaaanyways, I've been struggling with my body since middle school, and I never seem to stick with it. My weakness is saying 'no' to food. They say youre supposed to stop eating around 7pm and such or like 5 hours before you go to bed, but sometimes I just give in and have a sandwhich. I know Im not supposed to, and I feel like crap after.. but for those 15 minutes Im savoring every bite and could care less! As for working out, well, thats non-existent in my life. I mentioned to Amanda that we should start going to the gym, but she said shes not a 'gym' person. I understand. I only asked her because Ive wanted to go for a while, but I wouldnt want to go by myself- but now I have this urge tomorrow to go out and start a membership- I just might. But I know in a few days Ill be off this whole 'I wanna lose weight' kick, and itll be history repeating itself all over again. Plus, I know results take a while- and Im impatient, but I guess I cant complain since Ive waited this long to even think of actually doing something about it. I read stories and such and get the urge to follow them, then, the next day Im over it. Not to mention my attention span is pretty short- Ill be sick of working on it- especially if it takes too long to get results. Im going to try to eat healthier- sometimes I do, and other times I just give in. Im not going to cut out all bad foods, because I cant deprive myself- no one should, but I will try to cut back on how much I eat of it and WHEN I eat it, because time makes all the difference too. If anyone has any stories of themselves or any suggestions on what to do, Id appreciate it. This thread will be for anyone looking for the motivation they dont have in themselves.
PZelda 02-11-2004, 11:18 PM I hardly eat junk food anymore - well, candies, that is. I stopped eating candy so much like...I don't know...around 10th/11th grade ('00/'01). I still have a candy bar once in a blue moon, and I still have chips sometimes, but for the most part, it's all about carbs. CARBS, BABY. Today I had bagels and two grilled cheese sandwiches...
The best solution for now is to go with Weight Watchers-approved food...like...the frozen dinners...I don't remember the name, but they're in solid red and solid green boxes. They're low in fat, but VERY good...I've had them tons of times before...They even have great low-fat desserts, too...You still get to eat but you won't feel so guilty about it. ;)
Myself, I could stand to lose a few lbs...but I STILL fit in my jeans from junior year...But before that, I went up a pant size for every year starting in 7th grade. I look back at my old pics and go, "OMG, I was SMALL." It's not a HUGE HUGE concern for me right now, because I don't have to shop in the plus sizes section...But it's enough that I can never find any effin' pants in my size. :cuss: You know?

Thanks, Alison! Yah.. OMG Lean Cuisines own me. I LOVE the Sweet @ Sour Chicken and the Sesame Chicken.. but then again I also love my Hungry Man and Hot Pockets!!!!
As for candy and sweets- hate them. Lately Ive been craving chocolates, but I just think its my period and such. For me, its all about salty fatty foods. You can keep the cake and ice cream- hand me the Big Macs and Doritos!! :liplicks: Ok.. thinking of these foods do NOT help. Yeah, every year my size went up, although since school has gotten out its been pretty steady.. but steady isnt good either.. I want to go DOWN.
Well, I just told Amanda Im starting the gym tomorrow and shes all: 'thats awesome, im really happy for you', which makes me feel good, like I wanna cry.. but @ the same time makes me feel uncomfortable. I, myself, love attention.. but when it comes to things like this, I like to go unnoticed. Thats why Ive kinda always been afraid of losing weight- I dont want the attention and praise. Makes you feel good, but at the same time I just dont like it.
Chad22 02-11-2004, 11:29 PM I Always had a bit of a problem with weightUntil this past Fall. Im still overweight, But Ive lost About 40 Pounds. I Still eat quite a bit more than i should, But i try to make up for that with exercise. Not Much, But just a Half Hour-Hour a day Of Just walking has been working for me.
If I Can Lose weight, Anyone can.

Oh Man, Im The Exact same way. Trying to lose weight or not, I Absolutely Cant go without at LEAST One Bowl of Doritos a Day. I Usually have 2, But I Think im going to try to cut down to 1. Its been my favorite Food since i was a little kid so Yeah....
I Have a weakness for Fast Food Like Mcdonalds and Burger King too. I Simply cannot turn it down.
Im actually surprised ive lost ANY Weight like that. I Think the Key is just cutting down a little and Exercising.

Half hour a day works pretty good. I used to jog in place instead of walking. Jogging in place is great though. And I lost some inches. I wasnt really losing pounds though. But it worked really well for me. :)

Thanks. :D
Yeah Half an Hour or an Hour is the Average Day. I Sometimes feel like going a little longer.
I Also like to do situps On My Bed at Night. Youd be surprised how quickly you can get used to them. A Year ago i couldnt even do 5 without falling back out of breath and tired. The Other night i did 50.
Exercising really isnt so bad one you get used to it. I Actually find my daily walks Relaxing and it gives me time to think about things i dont usualy think about. Something i wasnt able to do watching TV And eating Junkfood all day.

Ditto, I just couldnt deprive myself. Plus, if you deprive yourself, your chances are higher for a binge attack. Yah, I love fast food.. but dont do it too often- I try not to. Basically, if its out of site, its out of mind. Like, I dont go out and buy junk food and stuff (well I do.. but not everyday), but if we have some around the house.. hey! Why not?!
Yah, Im gonna start eating a banana a day because theyre easy to eat LOl, and there are actually a lot of 'healthy' foods I love: Rice Cakes, some fruits and veggies (gotta cut out the dressings though!!!!), and a few others. I also think I should start drinking more water. Water fills you up, so that should help.

Man, I love bread! No way in hell I'd ever give that up. No way.
Actually, the only things I've given up are sweets (well, a lot of sweets...I still eat them occassionally) because I just don't feel like eating them, and dairy, because I'm slightly lactose intolerant. I have no willpower against food.
dawsongirl 02-12-2004, 12:29 AM Have any of you tried this...it works for me. Eating like 6 small meals a day instead of 3 big ones. Like, I can eat half an English muffin for breakfast...then like 3 hrs later I'll eat half a ham sandwich...then 3 hrs later eat dinner...then maybe 4-5 hrs later eat a snack...but all small. Not that I'm losing tons of pounds, but then I wasn't trying. But I did stop gaining weight.

I have no willpower. Take right now for instance. Its 11:41 and Im gonna be up til 1:30 watching Conan. When I think of the fact that Im going to be up for 2 more hours and not eat anything, drives me crazy. Usually I give in and make a sandwhich, but not tonight. Tomorrow me and Amanda are going out for breakfast 'Our Last Meal' as we call it, and then Im going to the gym to get a membership.
Ive heard that a lot of people mistake hunger for thirst.

Well I'm eating mini donuts right now, so...
But yeah...like in the morning, I feel like I'm hungry, but if I just drink some OJ, I can get by for another couple hours.
Moonlight Lady 02-12-2004, 10:46 AM I love salty food, Doritos and sour cream and onion chips are my weakness and Pasta, talk about carbs.
I'm trying to walk more often and not eat much at night. I'm starting to walk outside now to and from the bus stop. It's about 2 miles total There and back. When it gets lighter when I get home i'll be able to walk after dinner.
I'm not a gym person either nor am I interested in going to a nutritional counselor.
I don't wanna start weighing myself now cause it just makes me wanna give up when I see the numbers. I judge my progress on how my clothes start fitting.
JoJoJoJoJoJoJoJoJo 02-12-2004, 02:36 PM crystal,
I just started my diet too...like almost 2 weeks ago. My goal is to loose about 30 lbs. I've lost about 5 so far. I need to start exercising... and drinking water! DRINK WATER! I haven't drank any water today or exercised cause I think i'm sick, i got a nasty sore throat. But anway, I suck at motivation too. LIke today, i've so badly just wanted to lay down and eat whatever the heck I want. If you ever wanna email me at AmandaGibson78@hotmail.com feel free to, it'd be good to get that added boost of energy every now and then!!!
Janice 02-12-2004, 02:49 PM I've been struggling with the same lousy 15 pounds for 20 years. I love the Weight Watcher's diet. I've never joined WW, but my friend gave me the kit when she joined a few years back. She told them that she lost her kit, lol.
It's a neat system in which you're given a point range, based on your weight. For example, you could be allowed 22-29 points per day. All foods have a point value. I have the WW calculator to determine the point value by keying in the fat, calorie and fiber content in a food.
I like WW because it allows you to eat anything you want. If you want to blow your daily points on junk, you can, but you won't. I've learned to be very creative in making my allowed points go far. It teaches good eating habits.
I've always lost 1-3 pounds a week on this diet. I go on it every couple of years.
Good luck Crystal in whatever diet you choose :)

I tried that for a bit when my godmother joined, she did the same thing that your friend did so we got it for free. It didn't work well for me because while I can be good about what I eat for most of the day, my grandma makes these huge dinners every weekday and I have to eat them. Like yesterday we had spaghetti and I haven't been feeling the pasta vibe lately yet I still ate it because there was nothing else to eat. I woud love to lose 10 pounds, I've lost about 4 in my original goal of 15 and I guess that's ok for just watching what I eat and not doing any exercise at all.

We had one too...never did go in it.
Got a nice workout running a mile to class though.
animalcrackers 02-13-2004, 07:56 AM I feel so much better since I cut down on the sugar. I do cheat once in awhile, but cutting the sugar really helps. I also walk, you should try wearing a headset and listen to music or whatever motives you. Walking with a buddy is also great. When the weather is bad I sometimes walk inside the mall. Plus it's free.

I don't know if my college has one (I'm not there long enough to see), but like you, I get a good workout running to class. I have a class where I have to run down SIX FLIGHTS OF STAIRS.
¤I Love Clay Aiken¤ 02-13-2004, 11:59 AM I did it! I went to the gym! :cheer: 9:30-10:30 on the threadmill. I did a pretty slow pace, but picke it up halfway and did different speeds to bring up and bring down my heart rate. When I left I wasnt completely out of breathe which is good, but I felt hot and wornout. I did a little over 2 miles and burned 262 calories! Boo yah! Got it was the longest hour eveeeeeeer. I kept myself someone occupied reading Allure, but the glare of the lights forced me to hold it in place so I could read it well. :cuss: After I got off I had that woozey feeling and felt like I was walking on air. The whole walk to my car I felt like I was being pushed by wind lol. Then I started to feel kinda lightheaded and forced myself to drink off my water. I had no hunger at all but when I got back made myself a slice of dry toast. Now Im starving!! Ill probably have some chicken nuggets for lunch. Not the healthiest, but Ima cut the portions in half and not use any dips. My feet are killing me and my thigh is still killing me from my ice capades in the kitchen and now I think I pulled a muscle in my side below my knee from walking. Oh well, I feel pretty good!

Have a good first workout at the gym. I'm the same way with water, I have to force myself to drink it.
Ugh, I looked in the mirror this morning, the one in the full bathroom, how depressing. I'm glad it's getting warmer cause I can start walking outside in the morning, at night, and breaks.
Hollow 02-13-2004, 06:30 PM Theres this thing called michael thurmon's (sp?) 6-week body makeover and i havent used it or anything but it looks really good. you find out your metabolism works, then make a blueprint of what you want your body to look like and it tells you what foods to eat to lose weight. yeah i probably sound like an advertiser, but it looks like it'd really work. stay away from those stupid excercising machines and diet pills ("when does a diet pill cost $153 a bottle? when it works, REALLY WORKS!" worst excuse ever) cause theyre stupid and they all say the same things about themselves.

I really wish I had some definative answers for you. I'm still trying to figure out if what I do is really right for me.
I do know this much:
Several years ago I weighed over 200 pounds. alot of that had to do with the fact that I wasn't working that much and I sat around all day and ate.
I moved to NYC and got a job and I lost 20 pounds that year. I was on my feet eight hours a day, so I guess I burned off some pounds.
The lesson I learned - A physical job burns calories.
A year or so later I wanted to drop a few pounds for my sister's wedding, so four weeks before the wedding I switched to low fat foods, and diet soda (I drank a lot of soda back then) Without exercise, I dropped 10 in those four weeks.
Another lesson I learned - You can easily substitite regular foods with lower calorie/low fat foods.
I figured since I lost ten pounds by just switching to low fat foods, how much more can I lose? I continued to alter my diet, cutting down on the red meat, cooking more meals so I could monitor the fat content, eliminating fast food, and eating more fruit.
Two months later I lost another 15 pounds.
What did I learn? - You can survive just fine without big macs.
Throughout the years I have also added more exercise to my life, I took up jogging for a while, eliminated dairy products and caffine, and I slimmed down to 155 pounds, which is what I weighed in high school! I must admit that was a bit extreme, I have a few pics from back then and I look like a stick! I drink coffee again, but I still avoid dairy.
Where am I going with this?
Exercise is a great way to drop pounds, but it's hard to find the time to exercise daily. But, eating is something you always do, so making a commitment to eating healthier is something that can really change your life.
I'm not saying I'm 100% perfect, I still have an occasional pint of B&J (low fat of course) or a candy bar, but a healthy diet is a good way to start.
Hope this helps.
;)

I planned on skipping the gym this weekend, but at work today I decided to go. I decided only to do 30 min. though, but make it faster. After that I went to Shop&Save and bought some banana's and soy rice crackers. Im in so much pain though. I can totally feel the sides of my abs and can tell that theyve been working. My legs hurt too. But the most painful is my poor lil right foot thats all sore from the walking! *bawls* I plan on doing crunches and stretching at home on the days I skip the gym. For the first time, Im actually commited.

Bang A Gong 02-15-2004, 04:04 PM Oh god, weight.
My weight and I have a bad history.
I was always a chunky kid, bigger than all my other peers. Got bigger over time. I struggled with an eating disorder for a long time which resulted in me losing weight and becoming ill, and ended with me gaining all the weight back and permanently damaging my metabolism, thus making it ten times harder for me to lose weight. So I gained the weight back. Now, I didn't get huge. But I did get fat. The highest weight I have ever been was like 185 pounds I believe. At a height of 5'4", mind you. It was my fault though. See, I love food. When I get bored, I eat. When I'm alone, [which is a lot], I eat. When I get depressed [which happens a lot], I eat. I'll eat a lot of sweets. I love sweets. Chocolate, candy, cake, ice cream. Love it. And greasy fatty foods like pizza and fried chicken and pierogies [I fry those bastards in so much butter it's crazy]. And I love bread sticks. Cheese covered bread sticks oozing with grease. That crap is so bad for me and I know it, but I will still eat it all the time. I'm always snacking. I swear, I'm in the kitchen rummaging around for a snack at least once every hour. And that whole entire thing about you shouldn't eat at night? I don't live by that. Hell, I will eat a bowl of cereal and soup and chicken at midnight! I don't exercise. Like you Crystal, I would make numerous vows to lose weight but I never stuck to them. I have gone on so many exercise and healthy eating kicks it's unbelievable. I can never seem to stick to them. Now, I have managed to lose a bit weight in this past year [I have no idea how] and I am trying to keep it off. I am so out of shape and I need to get my ass in gear and start eating right and exercising. I will eventually get the motivation I guess. But I know what I need to do.
Good luck Crystal. Just stick to it. Keep up the healthy eating and exercising and you will be fine.

Thank you!:D Yah, I decided no more eating after 9pm, but lastnite @ Amandas I had a banana and soy rice cakes. Given the things I ate were hardly anything, but afterwards I felt so guilty because I let myself down. Im skipping the gym today because my feet are so... raw. Im the same way.. Ill eat out of boredom. If Im inside watching TV, I feel the need that I need to be doing something else.. so I grab a snack. Ill dig through the cabinets and tear them apart looking for something just because I feel I should be eating. Im not a sweet person though- I want the Doritos, Hot Pockets, and frozen dinners. Today after work I went back to Shop&Save and got myself a Lean Cuisine, Cheddar Cheese for my Triscuits, Yogurt, and some more Soy Rice Cakes (I ate the whole bag yesterday... :o ). I also bought some Tabouli, which hell.. I better like lol.
I wish you the best of luck too, and keep up the good work!:cheer:
QUESTION: I was going to buy some Hommus today too, but didnt know what Id do with it. What exactly do you do with it?
Thanks, Sheryl!:D

I'm considering joining a neighborhood gym. I still really feel self-conscious about working out in public, so i'm excercising at home for now. Somebody from the bus is gonna get me a guest pass so I can try it.
I stopped eating after 7pm. I'm also trying to force more water.
Also, I've noticed I don't eat for comfort or out of boredom anymore and i'm pretty proud of that.
EricIdlefan 02-18-2004, 02:19 PM I would rather work out in the privacy of my apartment because it not only keeps you intact of working out but you would have to drive back and forth to the gym and the miles really don't give you much of a workout but also I can't stand people looking at me while working out!!

Yeah, that's my big thing. But, I may change my mind, I'm a five minute drive from "Curves".

Yah.. Im still a little self concious that Im gonna see someone I know, but I figure hey- we're all here for the same thing, and Im sure most of them started out really out of shape like me.
Yup.. I made my deadline from 9pm to 8pm now. If I have a lil Jello cube or whatever a little after 8 or whatever thats fine, but nothing too heavy.
Me too! Ive been eating good since Friday and Ive stopped myself eating out of boredom or because I felt I should be. I now make myself eat a light, healthy snack every 2.5-3 hours so Im never starving.

Mmm tabouli's good, but hummus, I'd say don't even bother buying it, I think it's nasty.
