View Full Version : Do you think Sanford and Son and All in the Family was on the same level, or do you
TVFactFan 02-11-2004, 10:47 PM think one show was better than the other? I honestly think both shows were equallyt funny and neither was better than the other. AITF had Archie and S&S had Fred and i think both were very cranky and entertaining. But in the 70's, AITF always seemed to SLIGHTLY edge S&S in the ratings. I guess one of the shows had to win.
SBTB Geek 02-12-2004, 03:09 PM "All In The Family" is better in every way.

And why is that?
FamilyTiesGOP 02-12-2004, 06:38 PM Well, speaking for me, I also like All in the Family better in every way. Archie is funnier and the supporting cast of All in the Family is better than Sanford and Son. Edith, Mike, and Gloria contributed a lot to AITF. The chatter between Archie and Edith was priceless!
The Modfather 02-13-2004, 05:53 PM I love both.
Lady T 02-13-2004, 05:56 PM I liked Sanford and Son better; I thought Redd Foxx was Hilarious and his antics and interaction with the other characters on the show was timeless; though i enjoyed All in the Family as well, the show was a little too political to enjoy the show as on the same level as Sanford and Son:)
Mr. Television 02-13-2004, 06:09 PM I like both of them equally.
barwars 02-13-2004, 06:12 PM IMO....
Sanford & Son is the better of the two.
When it comes down to it -- it was just plain funnier.

I may have to give All in the Family the slight edge because Fred was gone for a while and Archie wasn't gone that long. I think only 4 eps

It's sort of ironic because Season 4 (the season in which Foxx missed numerous episodes due to a salary dispute) was the show's highest rated season.
I like Sanford and Son better because it is a lot funnier. I like AITF but it doesn't make me laugh as much as SAS. Redd Foxx rocked.
Artfiore1 02-13-2004, 09:29 PM Sitcom Analyzer,
Tell me you're joking with this question! Would you say winning a lottery would "SLIGHTLY edge" getting kicked in the teeth?
"All In The Family" was a landmark series which was hilarious, moving, touching and brilliant, and remained so for many years, continuing to break new ground right up until the end. "Sanford & Son" was a mildly amusing show, the four or five jokes of which lost much of what appeal they had, after about the 12th time around.

I chose AITF over S&S

I find it ironic too because the last half of the season, GRady Took over.
Artfiore1 02-13-2004, 09:49 PM Sitcom Analyzer,
But, it seems like you picked "All In The Family" because it always, for some inexplicable reason, seemed to do a little better in the ratings . . . or because you flipped a coin and "All In The Family" won.

I picked All in the Family because Archie was never gone for a Half of Season like Fred. So if Fred was not gone so long, then it would have been a tie to me.
LucyFan 02-13-2004, 11:04 PM I pick Sanford and Son over All In The Family anyday. S&S was a funnier and more entertaining than AITF if you ask me. The slapstick in S&S totally ruled over the constant, boring politics in AITF.
