OK, several times on SO, I've said that someone will do an I Dream of Jeannie remake because there's a Bewitched remake being made- and finally, it's been confirmed! IMDb have posted that Keira Knightley is very likely to be playing Jeannie. I know that most stereotypical genies are indian/asian etc, but I can't picture Knightley doing this well. She still looks too young, and I think part of the joke in the show is Barbera Eden looked like a regular American housewife, only she's an eccentric genie.

So- what are your thoughts on the remake?

I don't know who Keira Knightly is.

But the idea of having ones very own sexy half naked Jeannie that will grant any wish is a very compelling one.

However, I believe the film will be watered down in an attempt to appeal to feminist viewers.

I agree. that the remake will probably be watered down. Nowadays, everything's sacrificed to get rid of the risk factor- the original series had a very camp, cheesy humour- if a remake is done, it'll most likely lose this humour. The series never struck me as something that'd make a brilliant theatrical film- mainly because you never see any sitcom-style comedy on the big screen. Like in Malcolm in the Middle, where he talks to the audience- that's rarely done in movies.

What's the point with all these classic TV show remakes anyway? Talk about a lack of creation for movie scripts.

What really annoys me is that it's mainly drama shows being remade- but as comedy. First, there's Starsky and Hutch, now there's going to be a 6 billion dollar man remake, a comedy with Jim Carrey- and there are many other show-to-movie films coming out, that I can't remember right now. I hated the Charlies Angels movies- the show was very different.

Magnum PI is being made as a film- with George Clooney starring, but it'll probably be like the show I think. The Dukes of Hazzard- Britney Spears is rumoured to be involved, along with Ashton Kutcher. Wonder Woman- which is bound to happen, because WonderWoman is just a huge source for merchandising yet to be tapped back into.

I've come up with 10 or more ideas for movies that are original, give or take a few based on video games, novels, etc. I would never remake a movie or TV show. Just look what happened to I Spy.

If I'd to cast anyone as Jeannie, it'd be Renee Zellwegger- but her and Nicole Kidman are like the 2 biggest actresses now, and it'd seem like competition- considering they were both nominated for best actress (The Hours and Chicago) and they were both in Cold Mountain. I think Renee would look great dressed as Jeannie (unless they change the dress style for the film- heaven forbid) and Renee hasn't really done an all out comedy, kooky sort of film that's been very successful (ok, she's been in Nurse Betty, me myself and irene and Bridget Jones- but Jeannie is a different character altogether)- she needs to prove herself!
