I used to watch Mad TV religiously back int 1998-1999, it's best season. Everything clicked back then, the writing was superb, the skits were hilarious and they were always doing something risky. Remember the Alanis Morisette video "Wash Me" ? I nearly pissed myseflf laughing. But then the show had a few bad seasons and I stopped watching. When Nicole Sullivan left, it was pretty much over for me.

I watch SNL now and flip on commercials to Mad TV, but I never see anything interesting. Mind you, not that SNL is some piece of artwork. This season has been a big hit or miss, there have been terrible episodes and great ones. Last night, with Drew Barrymore, was a great one. WU was great, and I loved the skit with Donatella Versace- Maya Rudolph is one of the best things about the show, like when she played Diana Ross during WU. The script wasn't particularly funny, but Maya made it great.

for me, the main reason I watch SNL is WU because it's usually great...usually.

I agree SNL is hit or miss, but that's what makes it a little exciting. Some skits can be awesome and others total flops. Most of the time it's pretty good, though. And WU's definately my favorite part. Usually has me pissing my pants. :lol:

I just want to say that I think everyone should atleast watch Madtv every now and then and maybe you won't judge it based on a few non-amuzing sketches in the past!! This show has changed alot and is funny as ever!! No show is perfect and trust me...SNL has it's MAJOR flaws too, which I won't get into!! But check it out!!

I do watch it a lot on Comedy Central and sometimes on Fox before SNL comes on, and I like it, just not as much as SNL :p (Saturdays on NBC 11:30eastern ;) )

If you want to see some real, great sketch comedy, check out Mr. Show With Bob And David, Monty Python's Flying Circus, Saturday Night Live c. 1975-1979; 1987-1994, or The Ben Stiller Show.

As for more recent SNL, I'm a fan of Will Ferrell's work on the show. But that's about as far as it goes.

Monty Python's Flying Circus is hilarious.
My cousin has a few old tapes of it.


Id buy it on DVD.... if it didnt cost $150.

I wouldn't go as far as saying SNL's crap, I think it's been good from the beginning...I have seen episodes from the 70's, and they're not any better than the ones today. Maybe it's just a different sense of humor, but I don't think SNL's bad at all today.

Yeah, I'll agree with that. Although, SNL now's not unbearable...I mean there's still some good laughs that come out of it...nothing can compare some of the past casts. I've never cared for MadTV, though, always seemed like a SNL rip-off to me.

Ahem *clears throught* SNL has only been around since 1975, not 1904...and it's never lost it's touch. Sure, sometimes it goes downhill...but sometimes it goes uphill, too. How would you know? Do you ever watch it? Have you ever seen it? :p MadTV's the same way, sometimes it sucks and sometimes it's good. I don't see how it can be any better than SNL, though.

Well, I am talking IMO if you haven't noticed!! It seems to me that alot of people are talking about SNL as if it's so perfect and all that. I think it'd be pretty dumb if I were to judge SNL but never have watched it!! Uh...YES, I have watched it plenty of times and IMO, it is just not funny anymore!! I started watching Madtv in 2000 and have found it really fun ever since!!

Oh and by the way, DUH, I know SNL didn't start in 1904...they didn't even invent tv's yet sweetie, I was being SARCASTIC!!!

MadTV is so much better than SNL.

The show used to be good when Will Ferrell and Christ Kattan and Anya Gasteyer and all of those good old people were part of the cast. But now it's just boring.

I love Mo Collins [who, unfortunately, is leaving this year] and Alex Borstein, Will Sasso, Nicole Sullivan, and Deborah Wilson were great on the show. Uh, yeah, I know it's my opinion. Who else's would it be?

Jimmy Fallon does not belong on ANY sketch comedy show. He is horrible. But I'm sure he would be good in a comedy movie.

I think Jimmy is just fine on SNL, so what if he laughs sometimes, he's not the only one...and I think it even makes it funnier sometimes. It's called Saturday Night LIVE, it's not like they can edit it out like they can on MadTV.

Everybdody noticied that! The audience loved it and it was great to see Ana back in the role.

The 3/6 episode was pretty good. The things I look most foreward to on the show are the Donatella Versace sketches and WU.

MadTV used to be great back in the Nicole days. Her Nazi folk singer was hilarious. What was her name again?

I like MadTV better... SNL is kinda boring but I do watch it if it has a good guest start though.

I agree, it makes me wanna laugh more myself. Plus, that's the magic of live tv, can't edit that stuff and I think it's more fun to watch. :)

But it kinda gets to me when I see them(in SNL) talking during a skit and their eyes are constantly looking away to the cue cards....kinda makes it look alittle unprofessional...where in Madtv they don't do that.

That's because they have very little time to learn everything, much of it's written within a few weeks. I'm sure the people on MadTV have tons of time to learn their lines and plus, it's not taped live. And,myself, barely ever notice that anyway...

SNL on 4/9 was golden! Janet Jackson was great in just about every skit she was in- her Condi Rice impression was absolutely hilarious, especially when she was trying to practice the smile. I honestly didn't expect Janet to be good, but she fit in so, so well. The Good Times sketch was also drop dead hilarious, but it reminded me of something I was more likely to see on MadTV. MadTV spoofs thtv shows/movies alot more than SNL does.

And speaking of that, I saw the H2 sketch on MadTV the other week with the Stars of the UPN. I almost pissed myself laughing. Especially when Eve had to climb up to the top square and she was cursing all the way. In general, I find that MadTv gets away with alot more than SNL does, although SNL really did push it on Saturday with the "cork soaker" sketch. Janet almost said it the other way more than a few times and could barely keep her composure, which was hilarious.

1) It's called live tv, not always easy to be perfect. On MadTV, they can tape it over and over until they get it right

2) Ya gotta have a bigger brain to understand the WU jokes, lots of them take thinking.

and further supporting the SNL side -- if any of you happened to catch the most recent episode, hosted by Janet Jackson -- you'd agree that its one of the best in recent years.

well i guess ur right i do get the wu jokes ok im not stupid i personally just dont find them funny ok and yeah i have taken into consideration that it is live but still it bothers me to see that. i just prefer MADtv ok :D :rolleyes: :cool: :p

Tje Janet episode was the best I've seen since Sir Ian McKellan.

Almost every skit worked and Janet was a huge shock- she was hilarious.

A throw away joke that still keeps me in giggles was on WU.

Jimmy: Last week Alabama decided to name (soem liquor) it's officialstate spirit. That replaces the old state spirit- racism.

I say SNL reason why

1. It been on longer THEN mad tv
2. SNL Has a better cast then Mad TV
3. SNL Has only A-lister host & Mad TV Sometimes does not used the host
4. SNL has news that talked about funny liked Bush & Kerry

The only that I like Mad TV Better
1. SNL Has to have a Musical guest every week & MAD TV Don't used a lot in fact Mad TV Has the Hole the Show with Comedy & SNL has 3 quarters of a show with comedy & quarter with music

I like Mad Tv.
It's way funnier now than it was back then. Back then the jokes were just, jokes, no bad side to it. Now it's gotten risky and sexualy deranged I laugh hysterically at it. Its gets so sick and nasty I almost piss my pants, on the floor laughing my ass off, and there's a joke almost every ten seconds to keep you occupides, I mean, u barely have time to catch your BREATH!!!!!

SNL is different.

I prefer Mad Tv but I like SNL too. Mad TV was great back when Nicole Sulivan and Alex Borstein were on. I laugh my ass off every time I see a re run of Stuart or Ms.Swan.

SNL has a lot of good points too. There are times when I just die laughing. So I don't diss either of them they're both awsome!

the one downhill thing for SNL is that there's too much Michael McDonald on there. He's in every single skit it seems, and the "sneaky snake" skits have been overdone
