View Full Version : The Boat Builders
duluthduke 02-08-2004, 02:31 PM I hope everyone who thinks Mayfield is in Ohio watched this episode. When building the boat the boys repeatedly say they will take it to the ocean after testing it on Miller's Pond.
And later, Ward specifically says "the ocean is 20 miles away!"
frani 02-08-2004, 03:30 PM Hi, I'm one of the ones who thinks the show is set in Ohio. We've discussed this point in the past. I always thought this was a bit of poetic license for the sake of plot and to make Mayfield seem a bit vague in its exact setting. However, i think it's meant to be essentially in Ohio. I still stand by that. However, your point is well taken.
evermore 02-08-2004, 05:46 PM 20 miles to the ocean works for me!!!
and don't forget the starfish the boys found visiting Aunt Martha.
coastal state for sure!!! looks like the beach to me!!!

I agree. It really could be Anywhere, USA,,,,,but more points to Ohio than anything else. Plus, in the LITB movie, they made it Mayfield, Ohio.
duluthduke 02-08-2004, 06:13 PM The LITB Movie did not stick to the TV plots at all, so shouldn't be used as a basis to determine where Mayfield was. Remember in the Movie they call Aunt Martha a Cleaver when in the TV show she was a Bronson!
frani 02-08-2004, 06:21 PM Maybe Aunt Martha married Uncle Billy.
duluthduke 02-08-2004, 06:35 PM I don't think they were each other's types!
evermore 02-08-2004, 07:50 PM Aunt Martha was like Elsa Maxwell, and Uncle Billy was more like Grandma McCoy. It would not work. dabnabit!!!!
:bouncers :bouncers :bouncers :bouncers
duluthduke 02-08-2004, 08:13 PM :D A true Odd Couple indeed!
frani 02-08-2004, 08:42 PM They would have been good for each other, dontcha think?
junecleaver 02-08-2004, 10:53 PM i think in a sense they were both creepy! UGH!
desilu #1 02-08-2004, 10:56 PM I think aunt Martha getting married to anyone would make her less uptight being that she would finally "get some"! Maybe she would realize why June is always so happy! :D
evermore 02-08-2004, 11:08 PM Boy did this topic get off topic!!!!
LOL
From the Boat Builders to Aunt Martha and Uncle Billy to Aunt Martha being uptight!

junecleaver 02-09-2004, 11:26 PM thats okay....we all know boomer certainly didn't have a miss landers for a teacher...:D :happyface
1954Boomer 02-10-2004, 08:56 AM C'mon you two, of course I know how to spell Oregon. However, I prefer the Boomer variation best. It all started on the other board, with the 'other' June Cleaver and 50sGirl (from Oregon), and that blasted POTATO GUN, remember?
evermore 02-10-2004, 03:28 PM YES, INDEED....
OR-E-GON!!!!!!
OR IN YOUR CASE OR-E-GUN!!!!
BOOMER HAD MISS CANFIELD FOR A TEACHER.:happyface
1954Boomer 02-10-2004, 04:34 PM No, actually I had Miss Parker, who was my third grade teacher back in 1962. In retrospect, she reminds me know of Miss Canfield.
