Very Beginning of the Opening Credits if the show was based in Tuckahoe, NY? I guess the Empire State Building could have been included in the closing credits like it was in the closing credits of All in the Family instead of the Beginning of the opening credits.

But Archie and Edith was closer to Manhattan and the Empire State was not in their opening credits-LOL Maude was way in the suburbs.

But they did not need any famous New York Landmarks to prove to the rest of the American audience that their show was based in New York; their accents and attitudes gave that away immediately:lol:

I like seeing that part of the opening credits - same as in ABP and AITF. Makes me remember WAY back then cause the scenery looks....old. I dunno, does that make sense?

Actually the Empire State Building looks the same way now as it did in the Maude Opening Credits.

I don't know if it was really necessary. Personally, I liked seeing the NY scenery before they get to Maude's house.

Notice how Norman Lear did that with three of his shows.
Maude, All in The Family and The Jeffersons.

Well to me, it only made sense with the Jeffersons because they lived in Manhattan, but the Bunkers lived in Astotia, Queens and The Findleys lived in Tuckahoe, NY.

It seems like Lear loved to start his shows with an overview of the downtown city and then slowly take us on closer and closer until we get to the main neighborhood of the characters. He did that in Good Times(Downtown Chicago), The Jeffersons, All In The Family, and Maude. Guess that was just a signature style of filming that he enjoyed. It was sort of like taking us "home", be it to the Evanses, the Bunkers, the Findlays or whoever. At the end we always ended up at their front door.

LOL-i never thought of that. That's so true in his other shows. It takes viewers all around the city and then ends up at the front door. But in Maude's case, her show was based in the suburbs of NY so to me i didn't see the point of the Empire State Building in the very begining of the opening Credits. The Empire State Building wasn't even seen in the two actual NYC shows-All in the Family and The Jeffersons.
