View Full Version : PETA

Has anybody heard of this organization? A few weeks ago I was researching pigs and I stumbled onto this page on PETA's site. It had a video narrated by Rue McLanahan (of Maude and The Golden Girls fame) that featured a pig farm with extremely cruel farmers. It was the most disturbing thing I have ever seen in my life. I am not exagerrating. I will spare you the details except to say that pigs were physically abused and killed in ways that I think were ultra-horrific.

After watching this video I have come to the conclusion that PETA (or the People for Ethical Treatment of Animals) is one of, if not the most over the top organizations that I have ever heard of. Last year I was extremely disgusted when I heard that they made a comparison to cow slaughtering and an event in history that was not only tacky but downright insulting.

I am against animal cruelty in every way, shape, or form ever conceived by man. But I think PETA's way of encouraging people to be kind to animals and treat them with the same respect as a person, and their videos and multimedia files (I did not bother to look at any more of their multimedia. In fact, it will be a cold day in Hell before I visit that site again) are more disturbing and upsetting than informative and helpful. I don't think they realize that stuff like that can traumatize and even scar those who watch them.

I think it's fine. After going to their site I made the wise decision to become vegetarian. I was actually looking in to it and found PETA, the videos on the website show what really happens. It made me aware of the torture animals went through to get ... meat ... served to me on my plate. I think it's helpful! :)

Im the biggest animal lover out there and am against cruelty in every way, but I cannot watch anything that like and not be traumatized. Its gross. I remember not to long ago they attacked Clay Aiken because when he was 16 he accidently ran over his cat. It was an accident....

Peta was made famous by the late River Phoenix and is endorsed by stars most notably Pamela Anderson & Rue McClanhan. They show up at fur shows, protest against animal cruelity on tv shows and movie sets, animal testing, they are nothing but trouble!!

One of the top organizations? They sponsored a man who fire-bombed a building! They paid his bail, and are now paying for him to teach others to make bombs!

If you read my post more closely, you would see that I meant "over-the-top" as in they are too extreme. I did not mean that they are a top organization. If you also look at it more, you would see that I am criticizing and condemning PETA. Why do you think my message icon has a thumbs down?

I hate PETA, they can have their own beliefs but a while ago they put up ads directed to little kids, whose moms make hamburgers and such for them, that said "your mommy is a murderer."

Oops , I thought the thumbs down meant that killind the animals that way was wrong or something. I feel dumb now. :(

Brian, I could not agree with you more. I wanted to post something about PETA, but I could never actually put what I wanted to say into words. You did it very nicely. :D

OMG, that's terrible! Your mommy is a muderer???? PETA, IMO, goes way too far. You may want to stand up for animal rights, but you don't tell a kid that their mommy is a muderer. ohno:

:sheep It's one of my favorites, too! I love that scene from your avatar:

Is that a drip I hear?
Yeah, so?
Weren't you the last one to use the sink?

"grits" are a breakfast food. I'm not sure what they are, but they kinda resemble rice and have little taste unless you smother them in butter or other flavorings.

They are the same thing as corn-meal mush. Just different parts of the country calls it different things: South = Grits, North = Corn-meal. I like the cheese flavored grits. :D

OOok. That would explain me not knowing what they were made out of. I've only heard them called "grits." :D

No one yell at me. This is only my opinion.

I hate PETA. Hate them with a passion. Being an animal lover is one thing. Their tactics are insane and they go way overboard. I mean really...I saw a billboard for some presidential candiate I'd never heard of who apparently is backed by PETA that said, "Vote for the Carrot." And it had a pic of some dude in a carrot suit. How freakin lame is that??
