Has anybody ever been to Walnut Grove, Sleepy Eye, Mankato, and De Smet, even though De Smet was never mentioned in the show(or was it?). I drive an 18-wheeler and my company's main terminal is in Sioux Falls, SD. I was asked to take a load to New Ulm, MN, and looking at the map to figure out the easiest route to go, I noticed a Hwy.14 runs right through New Ulm, but it also runs through Walnut Grove, Sleepy Eye, and Mankato. So I intentionally took that route(there was another way to get to New Ulm, too, that I could've taken), so I could go through those towns and check them out.
Hwy.14 is the "Laura Ingalls Wilder Highway", there's sign's along the route, and Walnut Grove has signs about Laura in town. I thought for sure I would see Nellie's restaurant there though!!
In Sleepy Eye, I didn't see anything pertaining to LH, except they had a Dairy Queen & Subway, like back in the Ingalls days!!HAHA! Just kidding. Hey, maybe that's why they kept going to Sleepy Eye!
Mankato is rather big, not huge, but big enough to where it has pretty much everything as far as stores. It's far enough away from Minneapolis to where you aren't dealing with big city traffic, but close enough to where you could get there in a short time if you wanted to go to a concert or a ballgame, like in the LH days!! HAHA!Just kidding again. Sorry, I have a really silly sense of humor. I do love this show, though, really I do.
Never been to De Smet, but I see signs for it along I-90 & I-29 when I'm in SD.
