I was talking with a friend about The Brady Bunch, and he told me that one episode that stood out was one in which Marcia acquired magical powers. I have seen all 117 episodes from the original series, but that plot does not ring a bell.

Can someone clue me in as to what's going on with Marcia and the magical powers?

Maybe he's thinking of the Halloween episode. The girls get back at the boy's "ghost in the window" trick, when Marcia summons a "ghost" in the attic when the boys sleep up there on a bet with the girls.

I think your friend may be confusing The Brady Bunch with Bewitched.

In Bewitched, Maureen McCormic makes a guest appearence in the episode "And Something Makes Three." In the episode, Darrin visualizes his children as little witches with magical powers, and Maureen plays one of them.

I think this is where your friend may have gotten the idea of "Marcia" with magical powers.

Things Marcia Could Have Done With Her Magical Powers:

Made the football hit Jan in the face instead of her.

Turned Cindy into a frog for giving away her diary.

Straightened the boys' afros.

Turned Cousin Oliver into Tiger.

Made Greg give her the attic bedroom.

Marcia used her magical powers discretely throughout the series, making virtually every male guest star fall in love with her.

1. Desi Arnaz Jr.
2. Davy Jones
3. Alan Anthony
4. Harvey Klinger
5. Lester
6. Charlie
7. Doug Simpson
8. Clark Tyson
9. Jerry Rogers
10. Warren Mullaney
11. The guy from "Shazam" (in the ice cream parlor episode)

In general, the scenes where Marcia casts her love spells are now cut in syndication.

Seriously, maybe your friend is thinking about "The Brady Kids" cartoon series. The Bradys had a magical bird in that show, and it's very possible that there was an episode where Marcia gained some magical powers, too. Of course, that show is not considered canonical :), so the later sequels and series never addressed Marcia's powers.

I used to think that "The Brady Kids" was so cool when I was a kid.

Maureen also played Endora as a child in the 2nd season Halloween ep. Jack Collins (Mr. Phillips) also played the client in this ep, so I guess they met years before TBB, if they had a table read. Maureen and Jack didn't have any scenes together then.

I don't remember this episode at all. I thought the attic was Greg's room from the day it was cleaned out. Why would somebody be afraid to sleep in any room of their own house?

Episode #78 Fright Night
The kids try and outscare each other. The girls bet the boys they can't stay the whole night in the attic. It is a good episode.
I personally can sleep any in room of my house.
Maybe because they were kids and the attic was dark:confused:

This episode took place before the attic was cleaned out, so the boys slept among all the junk. They weren't scared -- that was the point. They were confident they'd have no problem spending the night up there. But the girls scared them with that incredibly authentic-looking cellophane ghost, and Peter and Bobby high-tailed it downstairs, losing the bet.
