My explanation is pretty simple. I feel the changes were made because the producers felt they were closed to being the number one show in the country and with a little change could finish higher than the 3rd best show in the 1980-81 season. I guess they felt if the show stayed the same, it would have resulted no improvement from the previous season or possibly lower ratings.
