Janice 01-31-2004, 03:34 AM What file footage shown on TV troubles you? A few of mine...
The Zapruder film of President Kennedy's assassination. It's still tough to watch all these years later.
Whenever they show the 'not guilty' verdict being read in the OJ Simpson trial, when OJ smiles, I have to look away.
Of course, the planes....and the Twin Towers. I didn't even like typing that one. My heart falls every time I see it.
The infamous play in the 1986 World Series....Red Sox vs Mets....the ball went through Billy Buckner's legs. Ouch! Kills me.
PZelda 01-31-2004, 03:43 AM This one commercial they had on last year for toenail fungus...What was that name, anyway? Lamisil? That ad was sooooooo disgusting and gave me the creeps, as did a lot of other people.
For the Twin Towers, I agree. I can't stand to look at them...I had nightmares about them when the 2nd anniversary rolleda round. :(

EWWWWWWWWWW! When that fungus guy lifted up the toenail....Ummm. Ewww. :barf: That is by far one of the most disgusting things I've ever seen on TV.
The suicide of Budd Dwyer.

Buckner was a first baseman for the Red Sox. During the 6th World Series game, a groundball was hit to him, and he missed it, and it went through his legs instead, costing the Red Sox the win.
The incident traumatized Sox fans. ESPN made a documentary about it.
hawaii five-o 01-31-2004, 02:08 PM The collapse of the twin towers.
The footage of Saddam Hussein after his capture when the doctor is sticking the tongue depresser in his mouth.
The surveillence tape of Princess Diana when she is leaving the hotel with her boyfriend just moments before they are killed.

TheHappyBurgerMeister 01-31-2004, 05:06 PM Oh, definitely the 9/11 planes. I makes me sick that they're were actually people in those planes and once they show it hit I cringe. It was defininitely not a movie.
Oh, Colonel Juke N Jive, I like your avatar pic of, in the words of Ralph Wiggum "Super Nintendo Chalmers". :D

I'm 110% with Janice on this one. I cannot watch that. Especially since my dad sits there and laughs away.
For me, the Twin Towers is probably the worst thing. I hate watching that. Close in second is footage of JFK and Princess Diana. Both are such tragedies.
Another thing I absolutely hate watching is documentaries on the Titanic. I watch a lot of them because I'm very interested in it, but I shiver when they show the ship underwater.

Rhiannon 01-31-2004, 05:38 PM That Vietnam picture is so sad.
I can't really stand to watch those documentaries on tv when doctors are doing surgery, especially when they're doing lyposuction and the stick the tube in the body and move it all around.

I can't watch surgeries either, and liposuction, forget about it.
There's another famous Vietnam photo where a Vietnamese man is on his knees, about to be shot in the temple. I can't post that one.

#1_Nancy_McKeon 01-31-2004, 07:19 PM The Twin Towers had to have been one of the worst, but when people mention Princess Diana to this day... I still flash on this one Video Footage that they showed on TV where I lived. It was Postmortum, and Princess Diana was dressed royally, and in a clear bag. I was young, but still I think I'll always picture that in my mind. It bothered me a lot seeing her in a bag. What's the point of showing something like that??
Rockapella722 01-31-2004, 07:41 PM Anything to do with John Ritter. 8SR, three's Comapny, last year's TVL awards... I can't watch any of it. I'll cry. I was literally a wreck on Sept. 12th at school... crying like a baby.
:(

Some blame that on Sam Malone from "Cheers", He cursed the sox by mentioning in a "press conference" that was in the bar in an episode how the "sox were going to win this year" (Paraphrasing) and it was in 1986

Hollow 02-01-2004, 12:11 AM A few years ago i watched this show on cartoon network called "what a cartoon" and they had this episode where some guy is cutting a carrot and he starts to daydream. then he snaps back to relity and notices he's been cutting his finger, i found that disturbing.
vienna waits 02-01-2004, 12:19 AM unsolved mysteries. the dang music on that show makes me paranoid. i can never sleep after watching that show.
Also, news stories about people who were either murdered or died mysteriously give me the creeps if I'm watching at nighttime.
vienna waits 02-01-2004, 12:21 AM forgot this:
And, of course, the people falling to their death from WTC. I never saw the footage on tv but then on the 1 year anniversary the dang school tv class made a memorial and showed the footage. It was disturbing and unnecessary.

There's this show on Cartoon Network called Courage the Cowardly dog and I watched it once and there was this mutant chicken from outer space and the dude ate it's egg and his eyes turned red and he turned into a chicken or something like that. I don't remember it completely because I saw it like 5 years ago. :grr: I do remember it was disturbing, though. :o

I remember having to watch one of those in 6th grade... it was Hitler making a speech, and the crowd cheering.. then they showed people going off to the gas chamber. It was horrible... I was actually very traumatized after that. I remember going home to my mother that afternoon and just asking "why?"

Earlier in the thread, I talked about R. Budd Dwyer's televised suicide on live local television.
There was another incident in 1974. This text from an article explains it better than I can:
After a slight technical glitch while reading the news during her morning talk show, "Suncoast Digest," in Sarasota, Florida, host Chris Chubbock looked straight into the camera and said, "In keeping with Channel 40's policy of bringing you the latest in blood and guts and in living color, you are about to see another first -- attempted suicide." True to her words, she pulled out a gun and, before the startled crew could react to this unscripted bit of whimsy, killed herself with a single bullet to the head. It was an unforgettable viewing experience for her early-morning audience.

After your post on Budd Dwyer, I looked it up. It rang a vague bell. This tribute site tells the sad story, without exploiting the man.
http://members.fortunecity.com/budd3/index.htm
I never heard of Chris Chubbock. I'll have to look that one up as well.
I've seen the Budd Dwyer video footage. Curiosity got the best of me, and I downloaded it about two years ago. A clip of it was later used in "Bowling For Columbine."
As for Chris Chubbock, thankfully, I'm not sure if any footage exists, as this was live local TV in the '70s, before VCRs were prevalent in homes.
I'm surprised, though, that these two incidents aren't talked about in the historical context of television.
I've got another one, though I'm not sure if this would count as "disturbing." Maybe odd: Dan Rather walking off the CBS News set live on the air in 1987.
Ewan's My Man 02-01-2004, 05:05 PM Yea, I'd haveta agree with the people who said the holocaust. That just makes me sick. And I was near tears when we watched Anne Frank in school. Awful.
However, the thing that will stand out forever in my mind, is (it's not a tv movie, but I'm still counting it, b/c I'm sure it's been on tv at least once) Ben Hur. OMG. We watched the chariot race scene in school when I was in 7th grade. Oh lordy...I went home and cried. That was the most disturbing thing I have ever seen in my life. And then the next day we watched like the whole movie from the beginning. I was sick. I hate that teacher...ugh. I seriously am scarred after seeing that movie.

¤I Love Clay Aiken¤ 02-01-2004, 10:01 PM Im with Jeff about Unsolved Mysteries.. the song gives me the creeps. Same with The Twilight Zone.. Theres this commercial that aired in 2000-2002 about domestic abuse & alcoholism. A little boy is sitting on the stairs listening to his parents argue. Then you can hear the husband smack his wife and the boy jumps. I hate that commercial. There was another one about alcoholism about a little boy who broke a glass and he was about to get whacked. I cant watch things that deal with abuse.. it just.. scares me. I cannot watch The Discovery Channel either- seeing animals kill other animals, etc. saddens me, even if it was reality. Ahh I remember what I cannot to this day watch. Guiness Book Of World Records.. back in 98 or so, a lady popped her eyes out. Meangya, then she did it in commercials and everything. Damn! I cant watch it.. I have a thing with eyes. Gives me the willies.

I was bawling the first time I saw it. Nancy is an amazing actress. I know, you didn't know I thought that haha.
The 9/11 images give me goosebumps.
Holocaust. I'm with Karly. I remember coming home and being really quiet. My mom asked what was wrong, and I just go on this rant about how mean it was for Hitler to have done something so evil. Of course, I also bawled the first time I listened to the Good Friday sermon at church. "Why...did...they...have...to....kill....Jesus?" In between sobs.
There's this picture in the Time review book of 2001 where they show a wounded Taliban soldier who's being beaten to death by Northern Alliance forces. I know we're supposed to hate them, but I just stared at these pictures (there were 3) and cried. You can see the fear in this guys face, and then they stripped him down and "degraded" him. They still make me cry.

I agree it's very hard to watch that whole movie especially knowing it all really happened to that poor woman.

I can't even watch those documentaries anymore - Schindler's List did it in for me. And it doesn't help the fact that a lot of those Nazi Concentration camps were located in my country. If I ever work up the gall, I'm going to one day visit Oswiecim-Auschwitz. (It'd help if I also knew how to spell the German name.)
Brent88 02-02-2004, 08:34 PM By far... 9/11 leads the pack. It also makes me very upset to think about how the people on those planes felt(not the hijackers of course). To imagine what they felt as those planes headed towards the building is just horrifying. I watch the scenes several times a year(tapes from 9/11 and the days after and documentaries produced since). Gory war images are also bad and those sad commericals with the kids that have no money and they want you to donate, those are very difficult to watch too. :( The OKC bombing, Columbia trailing through the sky after it exploded, and the JFK assassination are also on the list.
