View Full Version : Potsie in later episodes
reneaballard 01-30-2004, 02:42 PM Did you guys ever notice that Potsie is hardly ever in the later episodes? I like the newer ones and everything, but it just isn't the same without Richie, Ralph and Potsie in every episode. I was really disappointed. I do only have a few newer episodes of Happy Days, so maybe I am wrong about Potsie not being in a lot of them.
Urkel_2003 01-30-2004, 03:14 PM Your'e right about that. Potsie is only in a few of the later episodes, and does not appear in every episode. I think with all those new charachters, there wasn't really much for Potsie to do on the show anymore.
Dr. Thong 01-30-2004, 04:06 PM It did seem like Potsie was out of place and the writers didn't know what do to with him. There were some instances where they injected him into episodes with stuff to do that had nothing in relation to the episode's main storyline.
Potsie needed Ralph to bounce off of and once he was gone, he was a man without a sidekick - something that no supporting actor wants to be.
I was always surprised that he didn't appear in the final episode - technically, he was still a member of the cast, right? Even though he was appearing in very few episodes.
hawaii five-o 01-30-2004, 06:22 PM When Potsie did make an appearance, he was as dumb as a doorknob.
[-Kelsey-] 01-30-2004, 06:43 PM Yeah he didn't appeared much in the later episodes but when he did I was exicted :D
animalcrackers 01-31-2004, 09:09 AM I really disliked the way the show ended up treating Potsie. In the beginning he was a cool kind of guy, but ended up a idiot.
The Modfather 01-31-2004, 09:40 AM I love the older episodes, but they could have showed more Pots. But he was always so dumb!
Stormtracker TF 01-31-2004, 01:39 PM I dont like how they made Potsie so Dumb, it was Ok in the 3rd or 4th season when he wasnt half as dumb as he was in the last seasons, but after that it gets a little annoying. The 1st and 2nd Season Potsie had the best Character in my Opinion, he was Richie's Cool and Worldy Friend and i think it was a bad idea to make him get as dumb as he did. Im not saying i dont like Potsie in the later seasons, im just saying they couldve actually further developed his Character, instead of making him steadily dumber each season.
FonzForever 01-31-2004, 06:03 PM I'm sure the whole thing was very awkward. The writers probably knew they were in trouble as far as Potsie when Richie & Ralph left, but what were they going to do? Just kick him off the show? Risk alienating even more HD fans who were probably turned off by Richie & Ralph's sudden exit? It's unfortunate but at least there were still some decent stuff for him from time to time.
I thought the episode where he he decided to work two jobs rather than give up his apt was pretty good as an example.
Urkel_2003 01-31-2004, 06:29 PM I think that episode "Potsie on his own" was the only one that he had a starring role in after Richie and Ralph left.

Why would Postie been seen in later episodes? His friends Richie and Ralph were gone, he had no reason to go to the Cunningham House, and he wasn't a hangout partner for Fonzie so the producers really had a problem including him in the script.
Urkel_2003 02-01-2004, 06:23 PM I think that's why in Season 2 they had him work for Mr. C at the hardware store, but by that time, there was so much else going on, and so many new charachters the writers were focussing on, there still wasn't any room for Potsie.
