Has anyone ever dug out old tapes and realized you taped something that now you say, "Why did I ever tape that?!"

I have part of a 60 Minutes interview from 1990 when Meredith Viera used to be on it. She hasn't worked for 60 Minutes since 1991!

And for some reason, I have part of a Today show segment from March 26, 1990...Why, I have no idea...:seeya:

I have a lot of stuff that I used to record when I was younger. Now they sit on a shelf and I rarely watch it. Plan on selling it someday or running it over with an 18 wheeler :happyface

I accidently taped this Avril garbage over some of my FOL episodes, when I realized it I nearly started crying.

I used to have episodes of the Robin Hood tv show - go figure.

My favorite was when I dug through my old children's videos and there was a commercial on it that said "This year the class of 2000 started kindergarten." :faint:

I graduated in 2000 ;)

LOL I have the Star Wars Holiday Special. But even worse, I didn't tape it, I bought it. On eBay for about $5 when I was an internet newbie. I didn't believe the special could possibly be as bad as everyone said but it was and worse.

Some weird things I have taped:

- The Martin Bashier interview special with Michael Jackson
- A whole bunch of commericals from a programme about best British television advets
- Some news footage from Sky News of the Twin Towers attack live from the day it happened...the second plane hitting the tower, people running away, interviews with rescue teams and then the towers collasping

I don't know why I keep this stuff especially the TT footage because I never watch it..yet for some reason I won't record over it.

5 bucks? That's a good deal. That special can be hard to come by.

The other day when I was rewinding a tape I discovered I taped "Tremors 3" off of Sci Fi channel.

I guess I just wanted to say I saw the entire Tremors trilogy.

5 bucks? That's a good deal. That special can be hard to come by. Maybe the seller was desperate to get rid of it? If so I can easily see why he would've been. It's a real stinker. I've watched it once and it's been in my closet ever since.

I have it too. I taped it when it was happening because I knew this would be a day I'd never forget. I haven't found the nerve to watch it since, but I won't tape over it either.

I went through my tape collection a few months ago and watched stuff that I taped only a few years ago and was amazed at what I thought was interesting then, but now I do not understand why I wasted my time...Like I actually taped a few episodes of The Osbournes:rolleyes:

I think I originally taped it for my Mum so she could see it when she got home from work (no TVs at her place)...I remember phoning her up to tell her it had happened and she was like "tape it" so I did but it turns out I never really needed to because they ran news footage of it all day on about 10 different channels.

I can't bring myself to watch it again either, it's hard enough seeing the towers on TV shows (although I'm glad they aren't edited out...we need to remember) without chocking up.

haha..for some reason I have that too..why? im still waiting to find out LOL same here. I like MJs music a lot but I'm certain not a fan of his personality or anything else. I think the special is worth owning though, so I'm hanging on to that tape for now. One thing I've noticed about the programme is that it only aired a few times and then not at all. Hmm...

Yeah, thats why I taped it. He probably didn`t want them to air it anymore because it made him look bad.

That was a great thread. I got such a big kick out of this one. I wonder what the people @ Tape Trading would have to contribute to this thread. :D

Oh, about one and a half months ago, I was going through my Rosie O'Donnell Show tapes, and at the beginning of the first tape I was labeling, I stumbled across the entire 2001 American Teacher Awards program that aired in December 2001 on Lifetime. I STILL have no idea why I taped it.

LMAO

I have some Jane Fonda workout tape that somebody must've dubbed for my mom...the workout thing was from 1985 but the tape itself was from 1988, because mid-workout, it goes to a The Weather Channel report...it's really old and said TUE MAY 3 in one corner of the screen. It was like that for maybe a minute, then switched back to the workout. That was messed up.

There is this local channel that at night used to show a silent screen with horse racing results and usually they left the microphone pot FULLY OPEN but muted and the sound it made was goregous to me!!!!! -- It is a swooping up and down sound.......

Thats just 1 thing 1 might call Bizarre.......

I have a collection of East Side Kids and Bowery Boys movies that I recorded on my VCR from WGN TV Chicago in the 1980's. I have since transferred the movies on to DVD's and now have the collection in both formats, VHS and DVD. These movie airings were sourced from 16mm film prints which is unheard of today because you don't see 16mm stuff on TV anymore. To me these recordings are like gold and I'm glad I kept them.

Around 2003 or so, there was an infomercial for the Bun & Thigh Max workout system that I taped for some reason, though this included a segment where four ladies were asked to try on a pair of jeans (i.e., four different pairs of jeans for all four ladies) that obviously wouldn't fit them, then were asked to use the Bun & Thigh Max for 21 days to try to lose some inches off their bun/thigh area, then come back to the clothing store to try on the jeans again, and 21 days later, the jeans fit better on all four ladies. Here's one of the ladies trying on a pair of jeans:

The one thing I don't like about VCR's is when they malfunction and chew up a VHS tape. I had this happen not too long ago. Fortunately I was able to save the tape but now it's wrinkled in the place where the VCR chewed it up and now there's a bunch of lines that go across the TV screen when the VCR plays that part of the tape. It only lasts for about 10 or 15 seconds but it's still a bummer.

I don't think I've ever had a Beta tape eaten, and maybe only one VHS. I still have a Betamax, super heavy, that kinda works, and a 1998 Panasonic VHS machine that works OK.

I would like to have seen how the Beta system would have evolved, but unfortunately the inferior VHS system won out. It's easy to see how much better Beta is, by editing content on a Beta tape. You can do that on a standard Beta recorder--but you need a multi-head or S-VHS machine to do the same thing with VHS.

Then there are U-Matic 3/4 inch cassettes, which were used in broadcasting, primarily in the 80s and 90s. Most TV shows on films were upgraded in quality by transferring 35mm films to U-Matic tapes.
