Since you've registered at SO?

How have you changed as a person? What have you learned? Has SO changed the way you think?

I was thinking about this the other day. And I realized that I've learned a lot from the people here and stuff that has happened here. And I've opened up a lot too. By meeting people from all walks of life here on the boards I've also become a more open minded person as well.



How about you guys?

Since I've been here, I'm like a totally different person. I look back on my posts and think "wtf?" I've matured as a person; I'm older now.

I sure type differently.

I feel so stupid looking back on all my old posts. I was such an idiot. I think I'm way more mature.

I really haven't changed much. I don't post a lot and I don't have any friends on here...most of the time I just post my opinion.

I've changed. The first year I posted here I posted sporadically. I did a lot of reading but didn't speak up very often.

I never look at my old posts anymore because I have made posts over the past several years that I would call stupid posts. I wouldn't mind deleting them if I had the power to. I was 15 when I registered here and I feel different nowadays at 18. When June hits, It'll mark my 3rd year here. I can't believe it has been that long. :eek:

I haven't changed a bit.

If I have, let me know and I'll stop.

I know I've changed. I've become much more aware of things that are happening all around the country and all around the world. When things happen, like the fires in California or the blizzard in New York, I think of you guys and I come online to make sure you're all alright. My world isn't just where I am or where I live - and it's really helped me open my eyes and become a better-informed and more open-minded person.

Also, in case you didn't notice, I have become very politically active since I came on here. All the way back on that "Attack Iraq" thread - I'd never really been political before that. I'm now minoring in political science as a direct result. So thank you Fleet, even though we never agree, you have been a positive influence ;)

I don't know. It's kind of hard to say how this online experience has changed my real life living. I've learned a lot of things from people...but that's not really changing.

Well, when I look back on my old posts, I always notice that I wasn't really writing to anybody...it was more like I was writing at people. Now, I make my posts more personal, and it's better. :D

SO also used to be my secondary board. I was a very regular at the CMT boards, but that's long gone. Now, this is my number one online priority. ;)

Oh, and my typing has definitely improved!

Ooooh that's good! I agree with that.

I am a very, very, sensitive person who takes things personally and wants the " I don't get mad I get even!!" approach and wanted to bash people on the net since I don't see them face-to-face. But ever since the thread has been tamed, I want to be more friendlier and careful with what I write and also more importantly what I say!!

I guess I matured a little, and am more open on the boards than what I was before. Plus, I don't use stupid words like "u" and "r" instead of "you" and "are" did I ever do that? I think I did...ah, well, don't anymore. It's so stupid. :lol:

I know that I didn't know how to do anything on a computer at all before I came here. (i.e., photo editing software...what?)

My typing has gotten lots better. I, along with everyone else, look back and think, 'Oh my God...what was I thinking?!?" Oh well.

This is a really good topic. I've changed a lot since I first came here in June of 2001. A lot.

Well for the most obvious thing, I don't type.....

like this anymore!!!!!! U know what I mean with those excessive exclamation points!! Do you remember?!?!?!??!?!!?!? Yeah I think so!! LOL!! In like every post!!! And I don't put "lol" after every single post anymore!!!

Also, I don't feel the need to reply to every single topic I see anymore. I only reply when I feel that I should. When I first came, I thought it would be cooler if I replied to every post I say ( :rolleyes: ) I was just so stupid back then and would try to be funny at times but looking back at those awful, awful old posts of mine, I'd say I failed horribly...for example:

oh god ohno: And I used to say OMG!!! a lot too. Oh the horrible days of being 12. And I remember sometimes in 2001 when I made a post and no one would reply for a long time, I'd bump it up myself. These days, it would get annoying if someone kept on doing that. I don't post nearly as much as I used to (I think when I first registered I reached 200 posts in a week or so) but I've changed so much since then.

and I used to think it was cool to bring attention to myself. such as make a topic and type (READ!!! LOL) or type in CAPITALS to make a POINT and that PEOPLE ARE LISTENING.

I also avoided the b.s. people posted on here. now when I think you're annoying, I say it. I never insulted anyone before because I thought it was too rude. now it's like a hobby of mine to tell off the annoying people. sarcasm also rules.

I think I've calmed down my over-excitedness, although I will admit sometimes I get a bit hyper. :o I've made more friends here than I thought I would have and learned a lot about computers. If it wasnt for the boards I still wouldnt know how to use Adobe. Personality wise, I dont think I've changed much.. I've always been nice really, and dont really like to tell anyone off.

i used to be the biggest conformist and i copied and agreed with everyone so i'd be cool. thank god ive changed. come to think of it i came here for the first time 3 years ago yesterday.

I remember when you and Ricky (Babalu) used to annoy each other all the time. :lol:

:confused: gee, since i have started coming here, i have gotten much less mature, i have started to misspell some words, my typing seems to have gotten worse, i am swearing a lot more now, i get more headaches....
BUT, i have learned to ignore it when someone ticks me off and i can accept disagreeing with someone else's opinions (which, because they aren't mine MUST be wrong)

I've become fans of new tv shows I'd never have before and prob wouldn't have liked before (L&S, Conan O' Brian). I've also become fan of some new bands (Gary Lewis and the Playboys, Hermans Hermits thanks Jack ;)). I have also become proud of being a loser and now am not trying to change just to "cool". Also, if somebody does something that really annoys me, I've learned to let them know about it right away so things can be resolved. (thanks Robyrob :) )

I've also learned that Iowa is not the happiest place on earth. thanks Nate. ;)

I was 14 when I first registered here so of course I've changed alot, I acted like an idiot in a lot of my posts. But I was a much better person then, even though things sucked then too I've become more depressed and rude. Well, not really because I remember somebody called me spolied because I said I had all this Facts of Life stuff and I went crazy. :lol:

I've also changed interests, well actually FOL is still one of my favorite shows but ever since it's been off the air I'm not obsessed anymore. I still have my tapes and I'll watch them from time to time, but the whole Avril thing... I'm over that. Most of the stuff I'd say I'd purposely try to provoke a fight. When I look back on those posts I usually laugh and am annoyed at how stupid I acted.

I agree. I feel like I really know people from all over the country and those news stories actually have more meaning to me.

I think since I've came to the boards (it will be 2 years in March) I've changed significantly, both on here and in my non-Internet life. I post a lot more than I used to (it took me forever to come to the Chit Chat boards) and I participate in random threads, something I never thought I would do because I originally thought they were stupid. In my "actual" life I've become more outgoing and don't care what people think about me and am more likely to voice my opinion. The boards aren't the only reason for this change but I do give them part of the credit.

Wow, I've changed a lot. When I registered I had just started my freshman year of high school. I was a lot quieter but also a lot more hyoeractive, I think I channel my energy a lot better now instead of being all happy-face crazed and obsessive. I was totally obsessed with Laverne and Shirley.

4 years, several avatars (they added avatars!), and manymany sigs later...
Off the boards I learned to drive, registered to vote, got into college, got my first piece of poetry published, made some new friends, had several boyfriends, performed in several shows and lots more.

Now I have multiple TV/movie obsessions :p
I don't edge around with people anymore and I don't focus on being in my little clique like I used to, I have a lot of different friends and don't really care what people think about me. I've become a lot more "real." I yhink I'm a lot nicer and more tolerant of people, but at the same time more independent and outta-my-way when I have to be.
