View Full Version : At the tone, leave a message...
Janice 01-23-2004, 03:46 PM Do you screen your phone calls? I do. I have Caller ID, and depending on my mood or how busy I am, I decide if I pick up the phone or not.
I'm not the Queen of Screen though, and I know a couple who never picks their phone up which gets irritating at times.
I shut the ringer off on my phone when we watch movie rentals. If I was at the movies, nobody could call me. Besides, I figure that I'm only going to brush the caller off anyway.
So leave a message, and I'll call you back.
I don't have a land line, so I only use a cell phone. It has caller ID, and I do use it to my advantange. If I don't want to talk with the person, I just let it go to voice mail.
Czas na Zywiec 01-23-2004, 04:48 PM caller ID doesn't work with us since we have 7 lines at the hotel. plus, it's a business, so I have to pick it up every time no matter what.
Ewan's My Man 01-23-2004, 05:05 PM I hate the phone more then anything in the world so I do screen my calls. I hate talking on the phone but I'll USUALLY answer it. The only times I don't answer it is if it's someone I'm avoiding...only one person that I know of. Or if it's like...my grandparents. I know that sounds bad...but like if it's my dad's parents, and he's home, I'll just let him answer it, and if I'm home alone, why bother? Or if it's on my mom's side of the family, I'll let my mom answer if she's home, and if I'm home alone, I don't wanna get involved with that b/c there's been illness and all I'll just let the machine get it.
I am the Queen of Screening Calls...
Mijada 01-23-2004, 05:27 PM I let the answering machine get it. 9 times out of 10 it's just someone trying to sell something anyway.
Kay Scarpetta 01-23-2004, 06:31 PM I screen my cell phone calls... if I don't feel like talking, I just put them through to voicemail
My computer is the sole user of my land line. Since I got my cell phone a few years ago, I never use my house phone.
The only folks who call me on that phone are telemarketers, so I never pick the darn thing up. Every day when I come home I clear at least three cold calls from someone trying to sell me something.

Same here. We don't have a land line...I'm connected through a cable modem. Ahhhh, bliss. :D
Brian Damage 01-23-2004, 07:10 PM I don't know what I would do without my caller ID. :D
robyrob 01-23-2004, 09:16 PM i hate phones, its always for someone else so i never answer them unless i have to at work.... i used to have a cell phone, but i never answered it so i got rid of it :D
Brian 01-23-2004, 09:47 PM I remember last year someone said that if someone called a person out of state, it would show up as "Out of area." Let's hypothetically say I called Janice, would it show my number or who I am or will it say "out of area?"
dawsongirl 01-23-2004, 10:30 PM I have Caller ID too, so most of the time I don't answer it unless it's family or friends. That's what the machine is for. Besides, they're never for me, and I hate the phone. I answer it enough at work...don't want to do it at home.

It depends. My grandma out of state can call and it comes up with her # but not her name. Telemarketers call, it says Out of Area. It might just depend on the phone company.

Same. Caller ID works on line 1 but not line 2, and no matter what it says, I have to pick it up anyway. It does help though if I can't understand what the person said their name was.
-*Leah*- 01-23-2004, 10:45 PM We have caller id, and voice mail on our land line. The voice mail is good, because when I am on the internet( yes, I still have dial-up:o ) it picks up anyways. I usually just answer the phone though, when I am home, unless it shows up as unavailable.
AllIWantIsYourClutch 01-23-2004, 10:56 PM When we got SBC Yahoo DSL, caller ID magically appeared on our phone. I love it. I use it often. *squeezes it*
*Marilyn Monroe* 01-24-2004, 02:26 AM I don't have caller ID on my line. On the regular house phone, we do. But no one calls me on that one, so I let my answering machine get it most of the time. I avoid so many people. Unless I know a person is supposed to call at a specific time, I'll let the answering machine get it.
dandelion wine 01-24-2004, 02:37 AM The only time I'm really bad about answering my phone is if I've just gotten home and I want to hang out and relax.. or I'm on online. Still, Caller ID works wonders and I do use it to screen out those telemarketers. Most of the time my roomie answers anway, unless he's on the phone with his sister, his best friend or his girlfriend. Which happens to be ALL THE TIME.

Small Wonderian 01-24-2004, 01:20 PM I have Caller ID as well, so I absolutely check to see who's calling before I pick up the phone.
Blair_Warner02 01-24-2004, 03:44 PM I heard that Caller ID is illegal in California, is that true?
We have Caller ID and we only answer the phone if it's someone we know.

usually it'll say "(insert state) call." cause when we call Chicago, it always appears as "Colorado call" on my aunt's caller ID, along with the phone number.
AnaheimPMWitch 01-24-2004, 04:33 PM I dont have caller id but I do screen my phone calls I usually let my machine pick up first and if the person really wants to talk to me they leave a message I've had to do that over the years because of People I"ve dealt with *sighs*
