Howard Stern Goes Prime-Time for ABC

Stern will be hosting a prime-time interview special this spring.

Move over Barbara, here comes Howard. Radio shock jock Howard Stern has just signed on with ABC to do a one-off, hourlong prime-time interview special this spring, the New York Post reports.

And if audiences respond well to the show, more could follow.

There's no doubt Stern will have to tone down his regular barbed and crude manner for the new program. But a source told the Post, "There's probably no better interviewer than Howard Stern, and ABC knows this."

There's also speculation that Stern's deal with ABC won't be good news to some of the station's top talent, including "The View"'s Star Jones, whom Stern has repeatedly taunted about her weight.

"Don't be surprised that after his show gets huge ratings, Barbara Walters is suddenly asking her guests about their penis size," a Stern associate quipped.

In addition to working with ABC, Stern is producing a pilot for the WB about comedian Robert Schimmel's experience falling in love with his daughter's best friend after battling cancer.

CBS, associated with Stern's radio show through parent company Viacom, is absent from Stern's recent dealings. Insiders see this as a dig at CBS chief Les Moonves, with whom Stern has had a protracted feud. A spokesperson for Moonves made nice by saying, "We wish Howard success with his new project."

This is an unpopular opinion on these boards, but I love Howard. I'll be tuning into his special. He'll have to tone his act down for prime time network television, to be sure.

I enjoyed Howard's old interview program (was it on E? it was so long ago I forgot) because despite his antics, he can do a good interview.

Another article mentioned one of his dream guests would be David Letterman. I think that would be awsome.

I look forward to it.
Hopefully Fred will be there to play sound effects.

I couldn't stand him before, but then I saw this movie on him, and I gained a little respect for him, don't know why  Sometimes he's just really annoying, though, but eh...who isn't?

Howard's like a train wreck...you just HAVE to look! Love the guy. He DOES go over the top sometimes but it's a good diversion to everything else on TV! ~~Moe

I can't wait, I've been a fan of Howard as long as I can remember. I have a feeling that Robin Quivers will also be involved with the show.

Would you feel the same way if it was your parent/family member that he made fun after they died?

Only insecure and jealous people make fun of others.

He's made one movie thus far, and it was far from a "flop."

Yikes! I don't know if that's such a good idea. He may say he's going to tone down his jokes, but who would believe that?

All I know is that I'm not even allowed to watch him...so obviously this isn't the program for me. :D
