I grew up watching Captain Kangaroo, and I have many fond childhood memories of him and his show.

So did I. :( Weird.

Anyway, his show was hardly played anymore on my PBS station by the time I came along, but when it was on, I always watched it. It had a different flavor than Sesame Street or Mister Rogers' Neighborhood.

R.I.P.

What a shame. I too remember the show when I was little.

It's too bad he's been off the air for so long. He was right up there with Mr. Rogers in my book.

I think Bob Keeshan and his contribution to children's TV was overshadowed by Mr. Rogers.
While Fred Rogers will probably live forever on PBS in reruns, Captain Kangaroo was never repeated when it ended its original run on CBS, and future generations will probably never see what a great program Captain Kangaroo was.

I mean no disrespect to Mr Rogers. I loved his show, but I think when Bob Keeshan retired as Captain Kangaroo, his show was quickly forgotten when it could have continued to educate and entertain children just like Mr. Rogers.

I also grew up watching Captain Kangaroo and Mr. Greenjeans. Kids now a days don't know what they're missing. I liked the kids shows much better back then, except for The Bear In The Big Blue House, I love that show. The Capt. was cool!
