Hey,

I've got a question. How come The Smothers Brothers was canceled but not Laugh-In ? I mean The Smothers Brothers made some people upset, how come Laugh-In didn't? I think the Smothers Brothers should've stayed on the air, anyone else think so? I know that CBS picked them up but then dropped them.

Anyone going to answer this? Because the reason why Rowan and Martin's Laugh-in was not canceled because of ratings.

Laugh-In, literally shot up to the number one position in the Neilsen ratings after the shows debut in January 1968, and stayed in that position for several seasons.
The Smothers Brothers Show did well in the beginning, but the ratings soon fell...and then after one season the show was taken off ...

The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour was on for 2 and a half years from February 1967-April 1969.

Actually, the show was not cancelled due to poor ratings. The Smothers Brothers were fired, in breach of their contract, for the controversial political content of their show. I was actually able to interview Tom Smothers just a couple of weeks ago, and he confirmed this. You can read the interview at Being There Magazine:
