View Full Version : Wireless Internet?
-*Leah*- 01-22-2004, 07:23 PM My teacher has this in her classroom. Its like this little antenna thing setup , and you have to put a little chip in all your computers to make it work. Its got a really fast connection speed. Has anyone heard of this? Does anyone have it? I am interested in it, but I don't really know what I am looking for. They have them at Wal*Mart, for like $60.00 but I dunno if its the same thing. I should know this, I know!

robyrob 01-22-2004, 09:00 PM Basically you have to set up a wireless network with an access point (or router) that connects to the internet. Each computer has to have a compatible wireless card, and needs to be set up so that it can access the network.
The most common are 802.11b, 802.11a and 802.11g, which can also be referred to as WiFi.
here are some links with FAQ's/info:

dawsongirl 01-22-2004, 11:00 PM I bought one you have to put an ethernet card in your computer for, and I am not putting anything more in this computer. And since I opened the damn thing, I can't take it back. Ebay, here it comes.
It's too much hassle setting the :censored: thing up.

Jenya 01-23-2004, 04:21 PM We're thinking about getting digital satellite internet. Does anybody know much about it......besides the super high speed and costly price?
Brian 01-23-2004, 04:23 PM My family and I have had wireless internet for over a year. When I got my laptop as a graduation present last June, I got wireless internet for that, too. The only downside is that, although I can take my computer everywhere, the internet on my laptop doesn't work real well in the downstairs. I also can't go online on my computer out of town.

I also can't go online on my computer out of town. what version of Windows? - XP lets you set the priority of your network connections... so if your wireless net isnt available, it will try to dial out, or find the next connection available
