back in i believe it was 1989, on the ross shaffer show he had a gilligans island reunion, and ross asked sherwood shwartz if gilligan had a first name and sherwood said well we decided not to use it but if we had it would have been willie giligan, and the skipper his name was jonas grumby witch was only mentioned in 2 of the very early episodes, once his name was said on the radio, when the news caster announced the disapearance of the ss minnow he mentioned 5 passengers are missing with skipper jonas grumby and first mate gilligan.

Your right. Skippers name was Jonas Grumby. I heard about how Gilligan's first name was supposed to be Willy if it was ever mentioned, Im glad it wasn't.

I never did buy into the whole Willie thing. I think his first name was Gilligan.

Because it is. Although it's not common, "Gilligan" is indeed a bona fide surname. You can find "Gilligan" in my company directory for example.
I do feel sorry for anyone with that name though. The amount is teasing they've had to endure has got to be unbearable.
Bob Denver does look like a "Willie" though. :)
