Are there words that you cannot for the life of you say right? I cannot say February correctly, and wind up saying Febwuary.:lol: Also, if I dont take the time to say it slowly, I pronounce Marlboro, Marlbowo.:crazy:

I have such a heard time with the word "specifically," I have to say it really slowly. And for the longest time I had trouble with "ideology." I'm sure there's more that I just can't think of right now.

I can't say specifically either. Or particapate.

I've actually never had a big problem with pronouncing words...there might be some I can't say at first, but I can after that.

Infinitesmal (I can't spell it either. LOL)

I wouldn't call this a word I can't pronounce but for some reason whenever I say "Pamida" (as in the store only available in the middle of the US), it always comes out sounding Australian, not that there's anything wrong with that. I just find it strange.

Okay, this is gonna sound ridiculous, but I can't for the life of me pronounce Sleeping Beauty's first name. Yep. Aurora. I can't say it! It's my thick Michigan accent I guess, combined with the two Rs... It comes out "Arowa" or "Awowa" or Awora" :rolleyes: Everyone in my family thinks it's hilarious.

I have a problem with Vitameatavegamin, February, canary and focus (whatever I say doesnt sound like it) sounds more like..er...never mind and I try to use another word to replace it. lol:D

I live in MI and I don't really hear any accent. I know you generally don't hear your own accent, but I would notice it in others. I can recognize an accent in people from northern MI and Wisconsin, but not near Detroit.

I don't think I have an accent but once when I was in a resturant in Florida, the waitress immediately knew we were from the North. But either way I agree with Emily, I thought I could say Aurora but when I tried it came out funny.

Also when I'm at work and answering the phones if I don't take my time with, "I'm sorry there's no answer in his office, would you like his voicemail?" it all slurs together at the answer in his office part.

I never thought I had an accent either, until I spent a summer in Canada and all of them kept laughing at my Detroit accent. We're told that we're the flat accent in the US (no accent) but it's not true. We Michiganders do very long aaaaaaas, and really don't pronounce our Os very well. We call our parents "Maaaam" and "Daaaad." :crazy: Our accent isn't as thick as others, but it's there ;)

I guess I slightly see it now, but not much. I don't really find myself having long As, and I can pronounce Aurora (I tried :) ). I probably do have a slight accent and I'm not noticing it. I have been to a lot of other states and no one ever said anything.

I don't have a problem pronouncing Aurora either. I don't think anyone really notices their own accent. It's not until you meet up with someone from another part of the country or world or whatever that you can see the difference.

Must be a far north thing. I can say aurora fine and I've lived in Iowa all my life.

Non-accent accents are in the midwest, but not the north, like the Dakaotas, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and I guess parts of Michigan.

I just thought of 2 more. I can pronounce these words but everyone says I say them funny. I say "celery" like "salary" and for "naked" I make a g sound where the k is so it sounds like "naged." My friends make fun of me for that one so bad.

Seriously, the midwestern accent is considered to be the non-accent (all tv shows are done with a midwest accent) but the A and the O switch does occur in parts of Michigan, although most people aren't aware they do it. (Do you pronounce the names Dawn and Don the same? I do.) Anyways, pronouncing the name Aurora doesn't stand for the entire state of Michigan (the rest of my family can say it fine). I think it's just an Emily thing ;)

like...Dawhn and Don...er...I say it how they look. :grr: :lol:

And...I talk the way tv shows are done, too...and I'm from NY (not city, that could make a difference) so...I always thought I had the non-accent accent. Now I'm confused. :lol:

I had a teacher for biology and then applied bio/chem (I had the same teacher both years) in high school that had dyslexia, but had learned how to overcome that...She would get "specific" and "Pacific" messed up, too. :lol:
