Janice Johnson 02-03-2004, 04:33 PM From Kissthisguy.com.Song: All For You
Artist: Janet Jackson
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The real lyrics were:
All my girls at the party.
Look at that body,
shaking that thing.
But I misheard them as:
Oh my God! It's a body!
Look at that body,
shaking that thing.
The embarrassing moment of revelation:
My friend and I were walking by a record store where the song was playing. When I heard that line, I asked my friend why Janet chose to sing a song with such morbid lyrics. It turns out she didn't and that I've misheard it all along.

Actually, Bruce Springsteen, who wrote the darned song, sang "Cut loose like a deuce," not "revved up like a deuce," in his original 1973 version. :)

And this is also an incorrect song for "The Hideaway" by the 5th Dimension taken from an old album called "The Age of Aquarius":
Incorrect: Like an elephant, you must fly.
Correct: Like an elephant, you must ride.
I know that the lyrics to the 5th Dimension's "Hideaway", the incorrect lyrics "Elephant, you must fly" was referring to a Disney movie "Dumbo" that an elephant did fly. That's weird.

Incorrect: Little Audrey dead.
Correct: Little Audrey says.
I've heard that since I woke up early this morning on my IPod while the alarm goes off. That theme song used at the beginning of every Little Audrey cartoon. Strange! Kinda like a "Paul McCartney is Dead" rumor.
phoebe7165 01-12-2005, 07:53 PM At work, the radio was on and a song called "When It's Over" by the band Loverboy was playing.
There's a line that goes "I hope you're with me, I hope you're with me, when it's over". One of my co-workers, who wasn't familiar with the song asked me, "Is he singing 'I'm Oprah Winfrey, I'm Oprah Winfrey'"?

Steve M. 03-01-2005, 11:22 AM "Got To Get You Into My Life" by the Beatles
It came out as a single in 1976, and it was a Top Ten hit, so I thought it was a Paul McCartney solo single. And I thought I heard references to two things that were popular in 1976:
Incorrect lyric: "I didn't know that I was Fonzie."
Correct lyric: "I didn't know what I would find there."
Incorrect lyric: "Where maybe I could see another kind of Monza (as in a Chevrolet Monza)."
Correct lyric: "Where maybe I could see another kind of mine there."

Steve M. 03-03-2005, 12:43 AM I swear I thought I heard this when I first heard Jim Croce's "Workin' At the Car Wash Blues" when I was little!
I thought I heard "Don't expect to see me when you double your feet and have my eyebrows finally glued."
The correct lyric, by the way, is "Don't expect to see me with no double martini in any highbrow society news."
crystals 03-07-2005, 02:02 AM This misheard lyric is sad considering I like a lot of the Beatles music. But, the lyrics in the "I Saw Her Standing There" song, I have always heard:
And the way she looked was way beyond a man.
The actual lyrics are:
"And the way she looked was way beyond compare."
I feel so stupid considering I like a lot of the Beatles music.
:wallbang

Steve M. 03-09-2005, 11:53 AM I forget the title and artist, but back in the mid-seventies there was a song that went Shame, shame, shame, shame on you if you can't dance too." I thought it went "Shame on you if you can't have stew!"
Steve M. 03-13-2005, 12:12 AM "Touch Me In the Morning" by Diana Ross
Correct lyric: '''Cause you'll never take me there again."
Incorrect lyric: "Cousin Earl will take me there again."

Steve M. 08-21-2006, 09:32 PM At the end of Crosby and Nash's "Immigration Man," Graham Nash changes the line "immigration man" to "irritation man;" I thought he changed it to "imitation man."
crystals 03-29-2007, 05:54 PM I heard the Beach Boys song "Barbara Ann" wrong. I heard the song as "Bob For Rent". Needless to say, I was totally confused when I heard the song and then laughed after I saw the actual title.
Steve M. 03-29-2007, 08:02 PM I heard Aerosmith's cover of "Come Together" before I heard the original Beatles recording. Steven Tyler slurred the opening line so much, I thought he was singing, "Yeah, come on, flatjaw, he come oozing out soda." The opening line, of course, is "Here come old flat top, he come grooving up slowly."
John Lennon based it on a line from Chuck Berry's "You Can't Catch Me:" "Here comes a flat top, he was moving up with me."
Pug Lover 05-19-2007, 04:17 PM "Black And White"by Three Dog Night

I don't blame you. I think everyone heard that word word. It's because of the way Annie pronounces that word. She makes it sound like, "These" instead of "This".  ;) :)
Steve M. 05-23-2007, 10:18 AM Jim Croce - "Operator (That's Not the The Way It Feels)"
Correct lyric: "Operator, oh, can you help me place this call?"
Incorrect lyric "I'm a raider, well, can you help me place this call?"

Here are the official lyrics:
Ohio8 06-17-2007, 11:01 PM Jeff Beck's "Tallyman." I thought these were the words to one verse:
"Shoes and socks are wearin' for the children.
Billy Bop, or in the latest style.
From the tallyman, oh yeah, from the tallyman."
Ohio8 06-17-2007, 11:02 PM Now here are the real words.
Mikado 06-18-2007, 03:03 PM On Shonen Knife's "Wild Life", i could have SWORN the words were..." The mini skirt and Yellow hat, lie on top of each other"; as it turns out, the ACTUAL words are "The minute hand, and hour hand ( a clock ), lie on top of each other" ( Personally, i liked the lyrics better MY way! ) :D
Steve M. 06-18-2007, 09:18 PM "FLy Like an Eagle" by the Steve Miller Band
Correct lyric: "Shoe the children with no shoes on their feet."
Incorrect lyric: "Should the children wear no shoes on their feet?"
Mikado 06-18-2007, 10:42 PM Let's not forget the CLASSIC incorrect lyrics song....LOUIE LOUIE....
For years the "Garage band" version by the Kingsmen has been touted as the first song to feature "dirty" lyrics in "Top Ten" history; however, this is only because the lead singer tended to slur his words as he sang. In reality, he sang the EXACT same words as songwriter Richard Berry, who did the original, as a "sea shanty", with his band "The Phaorohs" :
Louie Louie, oh no
Me gotta go
Aye-yi-yi-yi, I said
Louie Louie, oh baby
Me gotta go
Fine little girl waits for me
Catch a ship across the sea
Sail that ship about, all alone
Never know if I make it home
CHORUS
Three nights and days I sail the sea
Think of girl, constantly
On that ship, I dream she's there
I smell the rose in her hair.
CHORUS
Okay, let's give it to 'em, right now!
GUITAR SOLO
See Jamaica, the moon above
It won't be long, me see me love
Take her in my arms again
Tell her I'll never leave again
CHORUS
Ohio8 06-20-2007, 06:52 PM Cream's "Deserted Cities of the Heart." Here's how I hear the first verse:
"On the streets where time (have) died
The golden treat you never died.
In times of old. In days gone by.
If I could catch a dancing eye."
Now here's the one that's on the Internet:
Steve M. 07-26-2007, 09:49 AM "Limelight," Rush
Correct lyric: "Living in a fisheye lens."
Incorrect lyric: "Living in the Fish Islands."
I thought, "The Fish Islands? Where the heck are they?"
Steve M. 03-02-2008, 09:21 PM "Fox On the Run" - Sweet
Correct lyric: "But the rest of you is out of place."
Incorrect lyric: "I'm arresting you, it's out of space."
