Remember the case of James and Lisa Albert? They were accused of arson among other things and after they were captured, James committed suicide in his jail cell. Does anyone know what kind, if any, of a sentence Lisa Albert received?/

Is this the case where the good girl married an older guy and they burned down their mansion that was beingbuilt? I could swear she turned herelf in and got a pretty stiff sentence....

Yes that was the story. I was just curious if she got much jail time. With her husband being dead, she could blame everything on him and try to get the jurors sympathy. Her family claimed that she was a victime, which I don't believe for a second. I couldn't find anything about it on the internet.

From what was said about Lisa not only by her family, but also what was known about her to UM, I would definitely say that she was a victim of sorts. Now, I'm not trying to say that she and her husband didn't commit insurance fraud, because it's rather obvious that they did, however she just didn't seem like the type who would decide to just up and pull something like that, and I'm guessing that it would have never happened if she hadn't gotten involved with James Albert. Plus, she gave herself up, and the fact that her husband killed himself a few days later makes me think that she intended to accept her fate with or without giving her husband a choice in the matter.

I've been curious to learn the answer to that question myself. Each time I watch this segment, I wonder. I think Lisa likely was not a mastermind on the arson plan, but may have gone along with it out of fear of her husband's retaliation. I hope she didn't receive too severe of a sentence. After all, she essentially turned herself in by calling her sister to request that she call the police.

While I never was able to find any information on her sentence, early last year I did find some recent info on her. She was living in South Carolina and was an elementary educator, so I imagine she may not have been sentenced at all.
It took me a LONG time to eventually dig all that up and I don't think I linked to any of it anywhere here at that time because I wasn't sure I wanted this thread to be one of the first to pop up should anyone Google her as it appears she's gone on with her life and as a professional, but I clearly remember it because there were multiple pictures of her. She also appears to have remarried.
ETA: This hasn't been the only time I've found people featured on UM stories being in profoundly normal situations relative to the segments focused on them. There was a segment about a teenaged girl that helped bust her then-incarcerated boyfriend out of jail and went on the run with him for a while before eventually being caught. They're now married with children and by all accounts look very happy.

I was completely unaware of this resolution. You're referring to Melody Woods and Michael Short?

I'm glad to hear they look happy and hope that Short has definitely changed his ways.

Another one of those cases where the family believes one of the criminals is completely innocent.
