Simon in my opinion is a great Judge, he is brutally honest which is very important in this buisness..The Buisness is very difficult and people need to be able to accept criticism and opinions without running off and crying or feeling like they just can't take it...The real world in the Entertainment industry leaves little room for failure and a Star is mature , professional and can take all of the garbage that the industry and media dish out with a grain of salt, that is what makes the difference between a true star and a wannabe....Who cares what is really said in the end if you are true to yourself and give it your all then you shouldn't have anything to worry about...Everybody has some purpose or another and some just don't have what it takes to be in this buisness and they need to be told....Don't think for one second that half of the people that go to those auditions aren't just there for fun and already realize that they will never have what it takes to be in the music buisness, it is just the chance that they have to be close to it for a little while even if to hear about failure that draws them there..They know they will be criticized and they really don't care, they just go for the thrill.....and to possibly get themselves on a small clip of TV for a few seconds so that they have something to show their friends..Their self esteem isn't as low as you think...or they .wouldn't be there .eitheir that or they are truly inept !

Agreed. Simon is the best Judge on the show. Paula is pointless and praises everyone and Randy is just as useless he does nothing but agree with Paula and say "Simon is being mean"..

Paula does kind of say pointless things, but i think it makes the chemistry work between the judges. However, Paula does give some constructive criticism sometimes.

Randy actually gives constructive criticism, with all his "you sounded flat, sharp... you had pitch problems, etc"

Yeah, if a person is really bad, Paula lets them know it. She doesn't praise everyone.

Randy and Paula are the ones that let a bad singer down gently, especially Paula. Randy is better than Paula at giving constructive criticism when it is warranted. Simon, however, is the opposite as far as letting people down goes. He is my favorite because he is brutally honest and is not afraid to send a wannabe to tears after a bad audition. People who think they are good when they are bad need the message sent to them and to me, nobody does it better than Simon.

If Simon were not one of the judges, this show would not succeed in my opinion. I wouldn't be surprised if a poll showed that Simon is the more popular of the judges. You could have 6 Kelly Clarksons and 6 Clay Aikens in the finals but it wouldn't be as good if Simon were one of the judges of the show.

YES! You're absolutely right. I like American Idol because I like to watch people with talent go from nothing to a superstar..but heyyy..Simon makes the show so much more enjoyable. Sure, he can be pretty mean, but someone's gotta tell these people the truth. I mean--would you get on national TV, make a fool out of yourself, and then have a judge tell you "You were....pretty good..!" Simon just tells it like it is. That's what I like about him.

 yeah I liked her too. What was with Randy though..AI isn't her "thing" and she should be on broadway? Yeah right! I hope she does well in AI, also that guy who sang for the pope. Now there's talent.

Simon really hit it the nail on the head when he told Scooter Girl that she had humor and that is lacking on the charts currently... He's right the music biz is too serious and lacks a sense of humor... I really wish people like Bette Midler would return to the charts... that said i wish Bette would work on a new studio album of her own material.

Yeah, that would be great if she would.

Yeah, its way to serious now. Last year on AI, the top 6 were soooo serious, and at times it seemed dreary. First season, it seemed more alive.... however, i did like Season 2 as a whole better than season 1.

This is the way I see the judges!! Randy is the "good cop" he is well-liked, likable, cuddly, and never, ever says anything bad.
Paula can be either good or bad. Good at praising and being honest but bad not to put the wanna-be singers down but trying to encourage them to try hard!!
Simon is the "bad cop"!! Let's call this "Cruel to be kind or Kind to be cruel". Honest and much as you hate to love him or love to hate him, I admit he puts a little sex appeal in the show!!

Randy.. he does say some "negative stuff". Look at him on Carmen last year.

Yeah but he isn't as bad as Simon. In a way, he is the traffic cop between Paula and Simon!!

Alright, here's how I see it:

Simon: Of course, Simon is my favorite. :biglove: He doesn't seem to be as mean this year, though, and I'm likin' it. Instead of being nasty to the people who suck, he's laughing at them, which might not be a 180° personality twist, but, hey...it's funny, right? :D

Randy: Randy seems to be getting nastier than he was last year. I couldn't stand all that "dawg" stuff, but he's cut back on that, so it's better. He's laughing a lot, too. Makes the show more fun.

Paula: I think Paula's doing great this year. She's gotten a lot harder on everybody and seems to be not as focused on their outfits. ;) I forgot where they were, but this terrible guy started singing, and when he was done, Paula told him to sing another one...just to annoy Simon. It was so funny. She's the only one out of the three who can keep a straight face.

I really think they told Simon to tone it down and Randy and Paula to kick it up a notch.

Simon is entertaining to watch, but what he does is not criticism. What Simon does is called Heckling. True criticism is offering advise on how to improve. Simon doesn't do that. All he does is say how bad the performance was. Its entertaining to watch, but not true criticism.
