Sanford and Son - The 4th Season is on its way to a junkyard - oops, DVD retailer - near you on Tuesday, March 30th.

When this season originally aired, the first three episodes shot where Foxx-less, as were the last few of the third season, because Redd Foxx had decided to sit out from lensing the series pending the resolution of a contract dispute. By the fourth show's recording, though, he was back and in grand form, pulling off Aunt Esther's wig in the now-classic scene. That episode - "They'll Be Some Changes Made" - was also the one where the cast was joined by Pat Morita's new character called "Ah Chew". Episodes were broadcast in a wildly different order than they were shot, however, in an effort to cover up Fred Sanford's absence.

Expect all 24 episodes from the 4th production-season to appear on 3 DVDs, with a running time of 602 minutes. 4x3 video and a mono English soundtrack are present, plus closed captioning for the hearing impaired. List price is $29.95 and, as we said, this will be available on March 30th.

Further specs and bonus material, if available, have not been announced yet. Stay tuned, though, because we'll let you know more when Columbia provides the details.

Hopefully, the next 2 seasons will follow on DVD.
Then the whole series will be available uncut and commercial free for all the fans.

Even though I haven't gotten the S&S dvds like I have Good Times, the Jeffersons and What's Happening, I'm glad this is coming out because it gives me hope that they'll continue with future seasons of these other shows. I like S&S, grew up watching it, but those other three are more special for me, I guess.

Yeah the 4th season is the DVD i'm looking forward to because it's Fred in all the episodes for the entire season unlike the 3rd season.

I will have reservations about buying season 4. I fealt that upon Fred's return, Sanford and Son jumped the shark. It never was the same after Fred came back. It became too outlandish with episodes about the earthquake, the circus, the huge art creation, Fred's church and the Sanford Arms was the death nail.

Not season 4 The earthquake and circus episodes were 5th season episodes,Fred's church episode was from the last season. The one where Fred creates the statue of junk(art creation) will definitely be on the 4th season DVD.

TV’s Hilarious Classic Comedy
SANFORD & SON:
The Fourth Season

Three-Disc Boxed Set Comes to DVD on March 30, 2004

Culver City, Calif. -– Return for more laughs at the junk yard with one of television’s all-time classic sitcoms, SANFORD AND SON, starring one-of-a-kind comedian Redd Foxx as Fred Sanford, a grumpy old junk dealer living with his long-suffering son Lamont (Demond Wilson) in Los Angeles’ Watts. An early milestone in urban TV comedy, SANFORD AND SON: THE FOURTH SEASON, featuring the complete season of 24 hysterical episodes in a special three-disc DVD set, will be available March 30, 2004 at the collectible price of $29.95 SLP from Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment.

Created by legendary TV producer Norman Lear (“All In The Family,” “The Jeffersons”), SANFORD AND SON was as hilarious as it was historic; becoming the first TV sitcom featuring an African-American cast and characters Fred and Lamont forever dreaming and scheming to make a better life. Ushering in an African-American perspective to the small screen, SANFORD AND SON was breakthrough television as it defied barriers and skewered stereotypes with its topical and timely themes. Outrageous and outspoken, Golden Globe®-winner Foxx told it like it was, raising the roof with his bold brand of outrageous humor, creating pop culture history in the process.

SANFORD AND SON debuted on NBC in 1972 as a mid-season replacement and quickly became a critical favorite and one of the network’s top-rated primetime shows, earning seven Emmy® Award nominations including Outstanding Comedy Series throughout its five-year run.

Featuring a colorful supporting cast of outrageous characters who help them keep their sense of humor, including Bible-thumping sister-in-law Aunt Esther (LaWanda Page), Fred’s girlfriend Donna (Lynn Hamilton), and old pal Grady (Whitman Mayo).
