I was watching that show and there is no opening for CBS's "Carol Burnett Show". Here are two things that I have mentioned:

1. "The Carol Burnett Show" was a full show on CBS included the opening. (I saw that opening clip on "Biography" a long time ago in which they have the word "CBS" next to the animated Carol Burnett with a mop a swung it to make the title "The Carol Burnett Show")

2. "Carol Burnett and Friends" was a half hour version in syndication which they cut the CBS version from a full hour to a half hour including the blue curtain with the title "Carol Burnett & Friends" with the animated Carol Burnett on it in which she uses the rope to opening the curtain for the show.

TV Land did not have the CBS version anyway. TV LAnd now has the half-hour version.

I agree with you, I would rather they show the full CBS version of the show.

I agree as well. If TVLand is going to promote the whole "Questions Carol Didn't Answer" thing, then they ought to show the questions she did answer. I think they would do better with a full hour of the show then two half-hour shows.

The full-length "Carol Burnett Shows" included musical guests and musical performances, and those episodes have never been in syndication. The cost of securing the rebroadcast rights for the music is very high, which is why TV Land is sticking to the comedy-only cutdowns. Supposedly it was quite a big deal to get those rights worked out for the Columbia House video releases.

I would like to see the full-length shows as well, but I won't hold my breath.

"Carol Burnett & Friends" was a syndicated half-hour version of "The Carol Burnett Show" beginning 1979 a year after the CBS show went off the air. It features variety bits from the CBS version.

Does Columbia House offer any videos/DVD's of the original Carol Burnett Show at this time?

Wow! This is a coincidence!

I was scanning through the channels and one one of those PIN infomercials they showed a DVD set of the "Best of Carol Burnett Show!" The original DVD was 2 hours long and subsequent DVD's were also avaiable. Unfortunately, I caught the show at the very end, and did not see what it was all about. Maybe, the disks are avaiable at Amazon.com or a Carol Burnett website, but they are out there.

I bought the intro 5-pack DVD set, but I haven't watched them yet. I'll let you know when I get around to watching...

You can get them through Columbia House (http://www.columbiahouse.com/sa/ch/homepage.jsp). DVD or VHS and they are the complete hour long show, with the musicals and the CBS on the intro. Two shows per DVD. I'm really enjoying them!

TBS was the first to show the 30 minute version of the Carol Burnett Show a few years ago. I think that TVLand bought the rights from them or after their contract ran out. Not sure about that though.

"Carol Burnett and Friends" premiered in broadcast syndication in 1979, just a year after the CBS version left the air. It was pretty successful and a second batch of episodes was released in the mid-80s (originally, the syndicators only compiled around 130 episodes for release).

WGN showed it for years (the ratings the show got on WGN were instrumental in persuading the syndicators to release more episodes). USA showed it briefly a few years ago.

I Love Carol Burnett!

The full length show also shows her at the end of the show tugging at her ear, and getting the autographs of the guest on her show.

I looked up on a number of sites that according to the Rerun'd site:

The Carol Burnett Show

Episodes were edited to a half-hour featuring just the comedy sketches. These were rerun in syndication under the title "Carol Burnett and Friends" beginning in 1979.

I was watching the end credits to "Carol Burnett & Friends", the ending does not say Recorded at CBS Television City in the credits right before the animated Carol Burnett pose after the end credits.
