David Letterman said recently that he will not retire when his contract expires next year. However, he will adventurely retire.

Who should replace him when he retires? My top choise is Jon Stewart, he should have had the Late Late show when Tom Snider retired, but not getting that job turned out to be the biggest break of his career, because he has a 11 pm late night show, and more people watch the Daily show than the Late Late show.

Another good choise is Conan O'Brien, ironicly if they went with O'Brien, this would be the second time he replaced Letterman.

Or if CBS really wanted to be hip, there are a lot of African American comedians they could go with. First choise is Chris Rock. Other possible choices Jamie Foxx, Dave Chappelle, D.L. Hugley, and Eddie Griffin. I think CBS would be afraid to hire an African American comedian with the possible exeption of Wayne Brady.

But under no circumstances would I promote Craig Kilborn to Dave's job.

I think Jon Stewart has a good thing with "Daily Show," and I think he'll probably stay with that for as long as he can.
I think like fellow comics Dennis Miller and Bill Maher, Stewart's next career move will be into the field of comentary.

Back on to the topic at hand, No one should replace Letterman!

I'd love to see Paula Poundstone, Margaret Cho or Joan Rivers repalce him... with that said none of them will ever do that, nor would they even be considered...


Rosie O'Donelle would be good... but i doubt that will happen... i think we need a female presence in late night... What about Opah doing late night?

Actually PAULA was AQUITED of all charges... they found her INNOCENT... She went through rehab and is piecing her life together.

But you must agree that a female prescene is needed in late-night.

Don't get me wrong I love Letterman, and I hope he continues for many years, however he is not going to do this forever. I also hope Jon Stewart stays on the Daily Show for many years.

Whoever said Joan Rivers, newsflash it is 2004 not 1974.

Letterman has some good years left in him. But I see him retiring sooner than later. I don't think Letterman is never going to allow his carrer to end like Johnny Carson's carrer ended, when NBC pressured him to retire, so they could bring in young blood to the Tonight show.

Wow, if thats true this will be the first time FOX attempted a late-night show since the ill fated, "The Joan Rivers Late Show" in 1987 (its debut season) and "The Chevy Chase Show" both of which lasted less than a season.

I think someone funny should replace Letterman, just to see what his show would be like with a funny host.

I agree, no one should replace Letterman.

Why can`t they ever just take a talk show off? Why does it have to go on and on?

It depends on how you look at it. CBS is just filling a timeslot with a another talk show. For example I don't think Late Night with Conan O'Brian is a continuation of Late Night with David Letterman, or that the Late Late show with Craig Kilborn is a continuation of the Late Late show with Tom Snider.

It is just the show that takes over Letterman's timeslot.

CBS is not going to give up late night programming, because it will lose revenues.

As much as I LOVE my Conan and Jon Stewart and would love to see them do more things, Im happy with the shows they got now.:)
