View Full Version : Pyramid Canceled!
Pavan 01-15-2004, 10:39 AM After two seasons, Donny Osmond's Pyramid will be canceled:
Sony Pictures Television has upended "Pyramid" in its sophomore year.
Stations were informed by the distrib Tuesday that the show would not be returning. Meanwhile, a rep for Sony said no decision had yet been made and declined further comment.
According to latest Nielsen numbers, "Pyramid" finished the week of Jan. 4 up, with a 1.9 rating, a 6% increase season to date. Although sixth among syndie gameshows, for the most part, it was widely thought to be renewable.
News comes the same day that distrib released its February sweeps celebrity sked, including a promotion on the Feb. 5 episode of "Friends" when Matt LeBlanc's character, Joey Tribbiani, appears as a "Pyramid" contestant.
Since strip exhibited no signs of being on the bubble, insiders believe Sony is clearing the decks for its new fall launches: hourlong chat fest "Life & Style" or half-hour "Pat Croce: Moving In."
In other game show news, Tribune's "Family Feud" will return for a sixth season and King World's "Hollywood Squares" has been canned.
hawaii five-o 01-15-2004, 08:38 PM Donny Osmond will have to go back to doing dinner theater.
howilu 01-16-2004, 02:49 AM I think Sony is making a big mistake in cancelling Pyramid when the show's ratings are showing an increase. It indicates that Pyramid is becoming more popular thanks to the familiarity of one of TV's best game show formats and the best bonus round of any game show in history.
The show has all the elements needed for a hit.. A simple format, home audience involvement and the ability to build drama and suspense. Let's not overlook Donny Osmond as host. He did an outstanding job and he has a solid future in game shows since he adds humor, listens well, makes the celebrities and contestants feel at home and stays out of the way of the game. That's why Dick Clark and Bill Cullen handled the original network and syndicated versions with ease and knowhow. Bonus points for Clark for his Winner's Circle postmortems to losing contestants by giving clues that would have helped him/her win.
I wonder what Bob Stewart's reaction to the premature cancellation is.
JD2635 01-16-2004, 06:36 PM Pyramid still has a chance of coming back. According to another show from last year that ended up getting cancelled (Jenny Jones) it ended up getting cancelled by May however, that was on the brink of cancellation, it seems that the only way to have Pyramid overturn it's premature cancellation to pathetic f******reality turd crap, they should at least score the miniumum Nielsen Ratings of 2.0 or above and they should have enough stations to air Pyramid in a respectable time slot. for their markets. So not all is gone for my favorite 1-2 punch Feud/Pyramid! So at least SONY should reconsider in cancelling Pyramid. So at this time, Pyraid has been unofficially cancelled until the ratings and The host gets reconsideration to extend it's contract. So at least let's give Pyramid another try!
dawsongirl 01-17-2004, 12:09 AM Renew Feud but cancel Pyramid. Oh yeah...good moves. puke:

As Red Forman would say, <Removed> I love Pyramid and I don't see why you begin to hate the show? Is it becuse you hate Donny, you hate the game, or you like other reality turd? If that is true, then <removed> I hope that one of these days you would regret saying what you just said and <definitely removed> I love Pyramid and I just hope the stations put some sense to the show! Save Pyramd!
I hate editing posts, but, for one of the rare times in history, I felt it WAS warranted.
RichFonz 01-18-2004, 08:49 PM JD2635, I didn't like the comment you made on dawsongirl. I hope you apologize to this user. Besides, everyone is entitled to their opinions. I am glad you apologized to the WoF fans this afternoon. But, you have to respect everyone's opinions. I don't mind Pyramid, and I know you enjoy it, but face it, not everyone likes the show. One more thing, I told you last night to stop complaining about everything, and start thinking positive. Anyway, I do have some prayer of Pyramid staying on, especially since in a few weeks, it'll be Classic TV week on Pyramid, and "Happy Days" will be represented.

Gee...thanks.
You totally read that wrong. I don't like Family Feud. I do like Pyramid. So they cancel the one I like and keep the one I don't. Read the sarcasm in there? Yeah.
So save your insults for someone else.

Edits by Seth: Just modified quote of JD's post with subsequent removals. No other action taken.

And to this...I am probably one of the more pro-game shows people on this board.
Chelsea 01-19-2004, 02:49 AM OK, something rare, I'm putting my foot down
Personal Attacks, for ANY reason, Are NOT warranted here. JD, even if you disagree with Dawsongirl's opinion (or subsequent sarcasm), you have NO right to call her or ANY member of these forums a "dumb a** bastard!" . Also, to insinuate that ANYONE on this forum is anti-gameshows is a verbal slap in the face, and is just wrong.
Folks, let's all play nice, 'kay? Life's too short to be attackign each other over something some mindbendingly inane as this. It's not world poverty, it's not AIDS, heck, it's not even politics (though it's not even warranted there either, at least that's a serious issue), it's friggin game shows.
I've done something rare for me, and edited out 99% of the attacks (I left in 1 part in 1 post, and a quote in this one, for due reason, but other than that). If this continues, I WILL lock the thread. Personal attacks *ARE* where I draw the line folks.
JD2635 01-20-2004, 04:09 AM I am sorry and I apologize to you for what I said. I just got misunderstood for what you meant. I won't ever do that again. Please forgive me and I won't say any bad things to people and I also apologize to you Seth for what I said to Dawsongirl. I am just trying to release my hatred of Pat Sajak. I just got caught uup mixing it with Donny Osmond in which I don't really hate. once again. I'm sorry? Will you forgive me Dawsongirl and Seth?
JD2635 01-20-2004, 04:14 AM Once again, I apologize.
dawsongirl 01-20-2004, 10:32 PM Apology accepted.
Chelsea 01-21-2004, 12:06 AM Eh, it's cool. But, everyone needs to watch it. Personal attacks on others tend to bring out my darker side, and, as has been proven, it ain't that pretty....
EricIdlefan 01-23-2004, 09:06 PM Donny Osmond has a website so that the fans of Pyramid can get a petition to keep it on for a third and hopefully more seasons after that!! What ticks me off is that they cancel shows people watch and never, ever, allows shows, whether game shows, sitcoms, dramas, talk shows, etc to grow on their own!! The executives and suits at the Major, Cable, or whatever networks are out of touch!!
trevian17 01-27-2004, 08:26 PM Pyramid cancelled? Oh, that's too bad. If Donny brought the Pyramid to Louisville; then I would have been on it.
hue_mee 01-31-2004, 04:10 PM That sucks! I loved watching Donny Osmond on Pyramid. To all the rumors Donny was not a bad Omen and did not have anything to do with it
